You could ask this dude to hand it out
Maybe you are lucky enough...if u tell him that your work on Flops sucks hard and totally lacks of any thing fun.
Add: That guys is the head of Activision/Blizzard and belive it or not...this article from a German print magazine says that he is actually forcing his workers (game developers) to not have fun by doing their job. Absolutly retarded imo.

Aye, the devs back there never have free time because time is money...
Is there by chance they could give us an engine reworking program? I wouldn't mind hardcoding a few things myself... (mostly enhanced physics and stuff).

Actually not true. Like every strategy game with multiplayer functionality I know, A2 is peer-2-peer. This means that no single player is the host, everyone is just sending all information to each other. This is neither better nor worse than host/client in theory, but it does mean 1 player can lag everyone else.

that is true. still there is always one computer that gives out random numbers for example. when a player gives an order to a vessel then it is sent from his computer to the other hosts - it's not like that this info is sent to the host and the host sends it to the other players. ship movement is calculated by each computer individually. all computers have to calculate each game cycle absolutely in sync. each host does only know where a player has ordered the vessel to go, everything else like speed, collision etc is calculated on every computer. if that mechanism fails you would get the infamous out of sync problem. to some extent that is also a quite good cheat prevention.
i am sure that more than 8 players would increase chances that a game lags a lot
despite that, i think that 8 players are enough for the scale that armada has.

so that is why it laggs... syncing... I get it....
is it better to do via server or via ethernet LAN?

to be honest Doca, this game always lags on a very high level. That's why mp is avoided by most gamers. It's nearly impossible to manage your fleet during a battle. You get peaks when one player scrolls to an opponent base or into a battle. Then when you are ordering a ship or a group into battle or anywhere else there's a constant delay - sometimes more, somtimes less, even when playing on LAN. u never get rid of it which takes all fun out of the game because you are constantly pissed off to not be able to manage your fleet properly and loosing your ships as they don't behave like they should.

hm, we do not experience lags while playing in lan
i would favor a "nolags = 1" too, but rewriting the netcode is nothing thats done easily. without the source it might even be impossible..

In all honesty Jan, that's complete BS

Some people have utter crap computers, which can cause the problem, as can bad networks or pathing between people on other continents. Nonetheless, I have plenty of games without lag as many other players can attest to. I have even had 3v3 or 4v4 matches in the past with ZERO lag.
That is why I like it when you agree...

Maybe you don't recognize it anymore? This happened to me when I was playing stock Armada II. After 4 years of playing day after day I actually planned my clicks by involving the delay automatically. I was clicking the second order when my first order wasn't even accomplished by my ships. As stock A2 has a very fast game play this was possible. But with Fleet Operations this case has changes completely.
Btw...BS... why do you use Wippien or Hamachi?
I really don't want to piss anyone off here but I want to point out how bad the net code is and one should really consider to improve it. This Wippien thing is not a solution. Not if you want to have more players online you can play against.

Nah, I'm pretty confidant that it doesn't exist, as I get the same play in IA.
I know, I am well aware of why I use Wippien... I can't host
Also of course, I can see everybody who wants a game immediately on Wippien, whereas I cannot do that on Gamespy.
I know that the netcode is bad, hence my post two or so months ago, but it is not so terrible as to not be able to play. You yourself told me that you did not play since your buddies don't like FO. Most of the people who don't play online are afraid to, have bad connections, or don't like online play--not because of lag issues (as far as I've seen).

i have to agree i dnt play online mainly due to the fact i dnt like playing online (had a bad experience causing a complete system failour after playing an online game in the past)
