Intrepid Sensor Special

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

I suggest giving the intrep a refit which gives it a sensor special.

Refits are usually reserved for romulans, but the newton can improve itself, and the refit im suggesting is a lot less significant than a romulan level refit.

The option would be available later in the game maybe.

The intrep was described as being a sciency explorer sorta thing. it was supposed to be really good at science and exploration. it has 2 really visible deflectors and a massive sensor array with many complicated looking parts. thats why i suggest a sensor type special.

this sounds similar to the nebula's full scan. the neb dish is massive, but it doesnt look complicated, it seems like the neb dish is designed for standard sensor tasks at longer range, and full scan fits with that.

the intrep dish is smaller, but looks more complicated, so the special isnt base on range, its based on accuracy.

I suggest:

the refit gives the intrep a larger sensor range than now. maybe not a massive increase in range. it doesnt grant much else, maybe a point or two to system and defence just to say new tech has been installed. nothing that great.

the good side is that it grants a second special weapon that disables torps, makes the ship's speed lower but grants the intrep a chance to detect a limited number of units that are inside a mutara nebula. the intrep is outside as mutaras disable sensors.

it lasts maybe 15 seconds. so triggering it would cause the intrep to turn on high resolution scanning or something.

the chance of detecting ships would be low, so that it isnt guaranteed. maybe 25%. a veteran could get a higher chance to detect.

makes it interesting to annoy those who retreat through nebulae.

I like the idea, however...

It has a single deflector.

that big blue thingey.

As for the massive sensor array, dunno what you mean there either.

If I remember right, those dark grey panels are the sensors.

Sensors are not some  giant dish (Argus/Midas arrays nonwithstanding). Even In real life they tend to be flat.

In this example, an IRL Arleigh Burke class DDG.

See that flat lighter grey hexagon type thing on the superstructure ?

Thats the radar.

It has 2 the second axillary deflector is on top of the saucer section and can be seen in this photo. In the sunken in area at the very bow of the ship

lol tokra you are wrong on both points, i have a sneaky feeling you are trolling, but there is a chance you are not, soo.

here is the image i will use:

the orange thing at the bottom right is the second deflector.

the dark grey hexagon above it, with all the little bits, is a sensor suite. we also know from TNG that deflector dishes have sensor suites too. so voyager has a lot of sensors.

the "dark grey areas" you mention in your post are actually ablative armour generators only seen in the finale Endgame.

you cant compare star trek sensors to radar, they are vastly different.

Each one of those white things domes has a radar in it too.

I would like a refit Intrepid. Perhaps as a Romulan-Federation mixed tech?

I wouldn't want a sensor Intrepid. It may have a backup deflector, but I don't think it has any more sensors than your typical ship of the time.
Maybe sensors do work so that a bunch of small ones are better than one big one, but deflectors are probably not designed as anything near primary sensors. Just sensors so they can deflect stuff without relying on the main sensors. Any range bonus would be tiny for an extra deflector, and especially so for a tiny one.

Maybe it could be modified such that it gives a general area cloak detect that can give you an approximate, targetable location only, represented as a lighter circular area that the cloaked ship is in, with the circle being centered randomly either on or near the ship so you don't see exactly where the ship is, thus you can have ships aim for the area and fire with a big miss chance.
Deflectors are not good as normal sensors, but they do excel at special particles and stuff.

the galaxy class main sensor array was on the deflector dish. so sensors and deflectors are a lot closer than you think. also there is the matter of the giant sensor array on the intrep that isnt visible on other ships.

If the Intrepid got a sensor special, I'd prefer it fromthe Borg Mixed-Tech. I'm sure Voyager got some Borg-upgraded sensors at some point.

The astrometrics lab you mean.

I would like something like this:
Federation Fleet: Intrepid X

Intrepid with cloak and heavy Quantum Phaser canon (or metaphasic disruptor) replacing the Tricobalt.

This looks like a backstep in federation starship design (and it robbers the Intrepid's unique warp-system as well).

Even though I hate that episode as much as all Voyager-episodes; I'd like this fictive Intrepid one a lot more:

Warship Voyager; what most who know of Voyager through reputation probably expect to find...

I suits Janeway more than a game of charade with the audience by disguising as a starfleet-captain...

i also agree with the borg mix tech as it is said that 7-9 uses borg tech to up grade the ships long range sensor's .......as to what ability  it would get im not sure perhaps work kinda like the dominion Hyperspace Sensor Station but with less range and no cloak detect or only short range cloak ping

Going by the description it was. Variable geometry is out the window and with it engine efficiency for extended warp travel.

It was a skeleton to fit a monster weapon.

As for the warship voyager, it would be very sweet if that got ingame somewhere (Map unit perhaps?)
