Ideas to make mixed tech more attractive to build.

Like the topic says I would like to see mixed tech be made more attractive to build. I hardly ever use mixed tech as I find the ships cost too much for what they do, except the dreadnought for dominion. What im hoping for is a complete redo of all the mixed tech specials to make them feel more attractive and worth building.
How about instead of giving the ships 1 special in the mixed tech yard how about letting them keep their stock special from the normal yard and let them have a 2nd special from the mixed tech yard that has a timer based cooldown or uses supplies to activate, like the descent class.
Example:
I have the Defiant built from the mixed tech yard from klingon tech. I think this ship currently has 2 specials, the critical shot and anti matter mines abilities. Both use special energy at the moment, which makes using both specials limited. Instead of the anti matter mines costing special energy how about it costs supply to use and has a cooldown like the descent, something like 5 supply or so but also make the anti matter mines more special, such as make it a aoe explosion that does damage to all ships in the proximity and shuts down engines for 2-3 seconds.
This is just a example but it makes building mixed tech attractive to build. Some specials in the mixed tech are just not worth building for, such as the borg intrepid as its just plain boring and not worth building.

I agree that Mix Tech is somewhat useless in multiplayer. For the potential benefit there is too much time involved especially the time you need to analyse the alien technology. Building MixTech simultaniously to the conventional stuff takes away important resources you need to stand up against the opponent in early and mid game. You can also turtle and go on pure MixTech but even then your opponent has outrun you. By the time you created a considerable fleet of MixTech ships a cube is heading towards your base.

I agree that the mixed tech vessels have been slightly disappointing, especially for how long they take to get to, but at the same time there is a lot of other options out there for stuff, and while it may not be an obvious activatible ability most of the mixed tech ships do actually have one or more abilities over their conventional counterparts.

I think it is hard to have a cooldown and special weapon energy, since the cooldown on the Descent is just special energy with a timer, and I don't think a ship can have 2 "kinds" of special energy. Firstly there wouldn't be anywhere to display it on the HUD

You can actually start with Mixed Tech as your second yard, investing a little bit of funds. Especially if you can get one of the 3 special cheap ships (Saiehr, Miranda II, E'Djen). The problem with mixed-tech is that it is either TOO effective (in which case everybody uses it immediately) or it is just ineffective enough so that people ignore it. It still makes an excellent boon to your fleets, you just have to be careful when you set it up, as it pays large dividends only later.
