ideas for sensor stations

this idea is primarily for sensor stations, but i guess it could be applied to other ships when toggled.
when you enter battle there is a red ping on the minimap telling you where u have been attacked.
i propose a similar idea for sensor stations. now when sensor stations spot an enemy you dont get any notice other than their little dot on the minimap. i propost a different colour ping which tells you when enemies have been detected near a sensor station. this would give the station slightly more use than just cloak detect. it will ping u before an attack allowing quicker response.
if a sensor station could do this, any ship could. but that might get a little messy. maybe have a toggle on your ships, that selects whether they will generate the ping or not.

too many pings going off, abuse of the system maybe. placing a few scouts around the map and instantly knowing which scout has sight of the enemy. i would be happy with this idea just for the dedicated sensor station.

coul be a feature for borg, that all ships have a little ping whn they see the enemy because:
-borg are always connected
-as they dont have so many ships, it wont ever look mess or overloaded.

Well, it could be justified for all of the races, not just the Borg. And it would probably help the other races more than the Borg, because other races have a greater quantity of faster ships to respond to the enemy sighting.

Well, it seems like both a good, and realistic idea, since it's essentially how real military operate, but the previous poster's are right, it's got a lot of potential for abuse and spamming, if I were playing as the feds, for instance, I'd send out a bunch of cheap arse little sabers or scouts to spam the sensor platforms until my opponent got numbed to the pings, and then send a real fleet at them.
though realistically, you could look at your minimap and see it is just one dot or a whole fleet when the pings go off?
I think it could add a new dimension of move and counter move to the game, and make people more likely to put sensors far afield like a picket than just near their bases.
perhaps if it were an upgrade to sensor stations, like "Operational intelligence" or something, instead of an a free inherent ability.
