Idea for Cloaking Factions

Was just thinking for a way where cloaking factions can set their shipyards or something so that when a ship is finished being built and leaves the yard it automatically cloaks and proceeds to its rally point.

So say, you have two field yards and a battle yard, all set to add ships to fleet 1 at rally location x, you can mass this force under cloak without heavy maintenance. With Klingons, I like to use my Kbeajqs and Qawdujs regularly to tie the AI up, while building a sizable Kvort.vorcha fleet somewhere else on the map. But I always have to tell the Kvorts and Vorchas to cloak, catching them on their way to the rally point.

Especially with federation. One of my favourite things is to build secret fleet so to speak, and build it up right next to starfleet command. My kbeajqs and Qawdugs attack the expansion... not very well... just enough to destroy the mining and shipyards... but half my fleet is elsewhere. Then when my kvorts and vorchas are enough, Just blast starfleet command, and both research stations to bits, and retreat. Then, during all this, get a few more ships built, and redeploy the fleet, and launch full blown attack.

And that is one of my made up storylines for Klingon vs Feds lol. Thanks for reading.  I imagine all the people on the station panicking... oh no, we can't call for reinforcements! Poor starfleet. And it is sooo fun to build up a nice fleet of Kvorts, and have them take out a descent from under cloak with their special. Doesn't even explode really, just shatters into pieces. Niiice.

I dunno, I just think it would be nice as an option to have them automatically cloak out of the yard if thats what you want. Sometimes you want them uncloaked so that theyll engage any trespassers... but for so called secret fleets or what have you, maybe this could be done. haha... and if this can already be done, please let me know!

Not a bad idea it could be a toggleable thing. A lot of players do this anyway and most people like less micro

My thoughts exactly.

Also: awesome idea godsvoice.

In particular, I think this would be useful for the starbases and the building of scouts. Having a scout that cloaks immediately would be nice, no chance of losing it carelessly or forgetting about it while it wanders of engaging enemy ships.

Or you could just use Ctrl-0 on that scout.

And this would make it harder to detect?

What does ctrl 0 do? Does that make ships cloak right after being built?

Haha, no it just puts the scout into the 0 group so you can find it .
I'm not really sure about it. Only with a button to choose cloaking or not. I don't want my ships to cloak when my base is under attack ;).
However, I don't find it that necessary. You can put groups to your yard, too so your ships get in their groups automatically and can cloak them than on your own. It is not really a problem.

well, yes, I already stated about sometimes wanting your ships to attack when your base is under attack.

But for scouts... I always want a cloakable scout to be cloaked... I'm not about to defend my base with a little scout, if anything I'll leave some bigger ships about.

It is only to have them cloak right out of the yard, they wouldn't just do it randomly. And yes, puts it into 0 group to find them. But I just meant I want them to cloak, so that they specifically won't fight. Forgetting about them.. meaning I build them, forget to cloak them enroute to rally point, then lose them in battle.

I'm also getting into the habit of using two general fleet setups, one for offense one for defense. So I have yards producing ships at rally points farther out, and defensive yards producing ships closer in. The ships rallying farther out serve as a heads up for the defense fleet, helping me manage them better. Can switch the rally point when ever I want. But sometimes when I'm being attack and focusing on my home fleet, I'm also sending out ships to offensive rally points but forget to cloak them... and then I lose them carelessly, since they end up right around the AI fleet. I could change this strategy... but I like it.

It works fairly well against AI, they don't generally use cloak detect that well, except maybe dominion AI.

I guess it isnt a big problem.. I would just like the feature of having a ship auto cloak for situations where it is wanted.

by the way, they turned the cloak hotkey back on (ctrl+c) so that will help a little bit hopefully.

Yes, hotkeys are always helpful. I will experiment with the use of ctrl c.

Actually, that gave me another idea which perhaps might work just as well. Let's say I've created a fleet x, and all of these ships can cloak. When I select them, half these ships are uncloaked, while the other half is cloaked. At the moment, I believe there is simply a 'cloak' button, and I don't want to use it, because I'm not sure what will happen, does this tell my whole fleet to just go reversee? and switch places. The cloaked ships uncloak, and the ships that weren't cloak now do?

So, if there were a way, instead, or currently is a way, where I can just select fleet 'x', and give them an order which causes all the uncloaked ships to cloak, and does nothing to the ships that are cloaked... then I have no problems. But I think I tried using the cloak button in a scenario like this once, and I wanted the end solution to be that the whole fleet cloaked.. but it didn't, some uncloaked, others cloaked and it got messy as it was in enemy territory.

Um, on a side note and off topic (I have the permission of this threads creator to speak off topic, I consulted with him). I think I was reading a thread somewhere that wanted the game guide to be viewable in game... But I also noticed I think, that there was an option to view passives in game - > how do I view passives during the game? Did I read wrong, or is there a way to do this? Can I select a ship and view its passive? In particular, I recently played as Federation with new version.. and I had the entire fleet on screen from what I remember, or most of the classes at least, and something was causing triple bomb explosions (at least this is what it looked like to me). I liked the eye candy... I just couldn't tell which of my ships were doing it. I think it was either Excelsior IIs, mirandas, akiras, or defiants... but don't know which. or, the akira refits from the Dominion yards. I had both akiras in the mix.

Seperating cloak and decloak was suggested sometime before, it'll probably be a while before anything comes of it though. It's more of a minor annoyance than a genuine problem.

You can view information on passives and weapons by simply moving the mouse over the icon on the ship display panel, but it only works if you have one ship selected.

i *think* if u have mixed cloaked and uncloaked ships selected that pushing cloak will decloak all.

It does, decloak apparently has higher priority and always goes first when mixed. I wonder if they can swap it around?
