I'm not usually a fan of non-canon ships, especially for the Federation (because there's far far too many of them compared to other races), however, I actually quite like that.

I looked it up and it is called the Apollo Class. The only thing I don't like about it is the nacelles. I think that in this case, more tradition TNG or latter canon nacelle designs would be better.

Here ya go: http://armada2.filefront.com/file/Apollo_Class;92790
Apply my patched SPR file to your fleetops install and it should work (although there are no guarantees).

I thought that too, a nebula class ship with an angel wings module, that resurrects destroyed ships maybe ? Ah, just kidding.

More like the antecessor of the Nebula based on the Ambassador.

Would fit more to the fed shipconstruktingidea. Constitiution -> Miranda, Galaxy -> Nebula, Excelsior?
Ambassador -> Apollo

Sovi -> Miranda 2 in Fleetops

Why must it be a refit?
The Nebula class in canon was always equippet with a sensor array as Wing-Module. And this is the main point: It is a module. So, why should'nt the federation be able to change the sensor & science module with a combat module so that it would be the successor of the miranda class?

But, the Akira class is already the next gen of the Miranda, I would say, but between the Akira and the Miranda, we had the Nebula, right?

So, why does the federation put in the Akira instead of leaving the Nebula with a combat module?

The answer would be pretty simple: The Akira is cheaper to produce than the Nebula, because, you dont have to produce two or more modules for every ship in order to "change" it for your needs, when the ships class already is meant to have a certain role to play.
With the introduction of new science vessels, the sensor module might have become obsolete so the designers tried to put the combat module and the basic structure of the Nebular in one single design and thus, the Akira class was born :)

So I think, the stats of this ship would'nt be better than the Akira class. So when I would wish for a new ship for the federation, I think we should give in a Class A+ vessel

The Saratoga Class fits that place much better, it is actually made from Sovereign parts and doesn't have a slightly boxy, half-Dominion look.

There are several ships that use the same parts as the Excelsior. Like the Shelly Class (Shelly, Curry, whatever the hell that butt-ugly thing is called!)

Yeah how you could get something so Ugly from something so beautiful is beyond me. The Excelsior just has the classic and distinct look that is not modular so it doesn't look good when you move pieces around... It's like putting cadillac tail-fins on the front of the car instead of the back... no matter what they just don't look like they belong there.

Something Bothers me about that design. Especially the look from fore. The added decks on the saucer makes it seem like a hotel.

I think I've seen SFC-Era Romulan ships shaped like that.

The registry suggests a possible post-Excelsior design with pre-Excelsior parts.
