How about a 25th Century Prototype?

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

Okay...... I have been thinking about this, it has been said this takes place in the approach of the 25th century. What if we started seeing some Prototypes of the next century ships in flt ops? How about I name some and see if any are voted up.

Comet Class:
Original Prototype Creation: 2397
Proposed purpose: Long-term interstellar Travel
Theorized Cruising warp: 9.1
Theorized Maximum warp: 10.15 (for 8 hours)

Estimated length: 536 meters

Weapons Systems:
Type XVI Phaser Arrays
Energy Torpedo Emmiters (The first of its kind in starfleet, instead of an actuall torpedo chassis scientists have been able to successfully create a torpedo shot from an emmiter, entirely of energy.)

Defensive Systems:
Both Primary and Secondary Metaphasic Sheild generators

Propulsion Systems:
Impulse Engines
Type XIV Warp Drive
Experimental Quantum Slipstream Drive (Starfleet has begun to attempt in perfecting the Slipstream drive that Voyager once tried into recreating the Dauntless' Quantum Drive)

Delphin Class
Original Prototype Creation: 2394
Proposed Purpose: Advanced Tactical Cruiser
Theorized Cruising Warp: 9.8
Theorized Maximum Warp: Unknown

Weapons Systems:
Type XI Phaser Arrays
Type IIX Photon Torpedoes

Defensive Systems:
Redundant Sheild Generators
Ablative Hull Armor

Propulsion Systems:
Impulse Engines
Experimental Transwarp Drive system

Remember that the Devs favor including TNG style ships.. and these aren't exactly a continuation of that theme  :sweatdrop:

Also... what's the deal with the warp 10.15 value?

Well, I'd thought that they'd try to make a ship that can carry itself up to Warp 10. Besides, I thought that there was a thing on the Excalibur class hitting warp 10 on emergency warp speed. So I thought it'd be possible that in the 25th there'd be something of that capability.

I believe the warp scale is asymptotic... you can't travel beyond warp 10 using warp drive, you can only approach it.

If they redid the scale, Warp 10 could easily become nothing more than another speed to impress primitve races. I doubt FO-era would have a new scale when they still have many speeds to surpass on the current one.

Looks a lot like the Dauntless class.

Is that on purpose?

Romulans have that, it's called Plasma Torpedos...

i might be wrong, but as far as my knowledge goes the plasma torpedoes still consist of a small shell generating a magnetic field to contain the plasma. of course such a "ammo shell" is far far smaller then a photon torpedo which has thrusters, a computer and stuff on board

If the modern Plasma torp is anything like the TOS one, it probably doesn't use a casing.

It has to. How else would you stockpile thousands of plasma torpedoes

Maybe they get the torps another way? Like waste from the ship?

Check Memory Alpha, seems they abandoned casing-less ones... Probably too slow and short-ranged to be useful against ships.

Ah, I see you did not get the reference :( . There was a DS9 episode where the Romulans were found out to have been stockpiling thousands of plasma torpedoes on a Bajoran moon. Also, in lots of TNG episodes when you hear about the Romulan warbird bringing its torpedoes online and then disarming, I think it would be odd if it could simply "store" this plasma for that short amount of time and then dissipate it.

Read my pre-your post edit.

:) Yeah, I checked Memory Alpha too about that, but they were none too clear I thought - still, it is a reasonable assumption I think

So, are either of these a Go? Could one of them be a 25th Century Prototype that can be integrated in?
