Guarding intercepts incoming fire

Another random idea: Have any ship that is guarding something (either ship or structure) intercept some percentage (30%?) of incoming fire targeted at the guarded object. I.e. if a player specifically targets Ship A and Ship B is guarding Ship A, then Ship B will take some of the fire that was meant for Ship A. Ideally this would be directional/line-of-fire aware, such that a ship must be generally in the line of fire to cause this affect (no intercepting fire from the opposite side of the guarded ship). Additionally, give the ship guarding an automatic "speed up to intercept fire" if it is on the sides of the guarded ship relative to the line of fire.

Isn't that the idea of the new defensive profile only for fleet action instead of protection a single target?

i like the idea, but i also feel it does step a bit on the def profile thing.
also imagine having a descent guard a weaker ship, this basically splits fire with no chance of getting the kill.
and what would happen if you had a descent guard an akira, and have the same akira guard the descent in return?
what about have the guarding ship reinforce shields of the weaker ship?

Sounds like it includes friendly fire. No opinion on the splitting-fire thing, but weapons damaging what they hit instead of passing through to reach the target is always good to me.
