Could an object be added to maps that occasionally spawns random derelict ships? Probably about 10-20% chance of each one spawning a ship per game; ships vanish all the time and could turn up any day.
Maybe with a 10% chance a spawned ship could continue funtioning without a crew. There's plently of weird crap around space that could make a ship act like it was alive. That has happened to both Enterprise and Voyager.

I would like that however only if it's balanced...
Meaning you have 4 players for example so 4 ghostships will spawn somewhere near the player bases.
For Ai matches it shouldn't matter where they spawn.

i dont like this much, would be a pain to balance, as 1 ship early on could change a game.
maybe if it happened later in the game, and was restricted to ships that arent that powerful.

How would it be a pain with only about 10-20% chance of happening? Especially with some being 'alive', making taking over not possible.
Borg ships could probably be excluded, justified as Cubes vanishing is highly unlikely. Rarely fell derelict, either.

well if it happened early, even a simple destroyer like a monsoon can change a game. so regardless of the % chance, it would be possible to get a big advantage in the first battle.
it would have to be time limited to happen later on. 1 ship can sometimes change a game. it would have to not allow ships with cloaks as well, or ships that come with specials.
random crewed ships flying around would be annoying if they damaged the ships of 1 player but not another.
if these were added as possibilities for map makers, i wouldnt object, just those maps would probably be best in single player.

Wouldn't be too bad if it was a ship type players already had the counters for, though a countdown before spawning would be tolerable if it spawned somewhere unexplored.

I said live ships, not crewed ones. Something like Voyager when it was controlled by an entiTy from a Nebula, or Enterprise whn it came alive to 'reproduce' (I'm sure that's was it did). Entities capable of controlling shipS like that exist in canon, and there's no telling what happened weird crap to the ship while it was missing.
They wouldn't have to be hostile, and could easily leave the players alone unless attacked first like the Romulans from the stock mission Along the Neutral Zone.
Would only require a seperate, non-ranking version of the base odf set up like a stock 8472 ship.

would be interesting, wouldnt affect balance at all then, would just be a bit of eye candy. i have no opposition to that.
