Form-fitting Shields

A couple of the Special Weapons cause the ship using it to glow (like the Norway or the Nebula's pod). I was wondering if the same method of doing that could be used to make give a few Federation ships (like the Sovereign Class) Shields that are close to the Hull, like in Nemesis.

The Sovereign will be getting form fitting shields some time in the future I believe.... not sure about the others though

it would maybe also give a good animation for the descent with its multi layered shields, like when half of the shield energy is down, the shield bubble dissapears and the shoots get on the form fitted shields., that would sure look coll, i think  :D

As i recall, i asked about this and Doca said that the main problem is deriving texture coordinates for hit effects so that it looks right.

no problem... NX01 had no shields

The NX-01 had that strange Hull Plating that seemed to work like a Structural Integrity Field. Though, any NX Class around after the Federation was formed would likely have regular Shields (either from the Vulcans, Tellerites or Andorians).

The NX-01 fro an alternate timeline had Andorian Shields.

Agreed. The hull was polarized, so I suppose it could result in some form of energy distortion when impacted. 

Gotta love those Andorians.
