One of the great parts of Star Trek is that there are already hundreds of lovely designs to integrate into the game.

its a good idea also why not change things so all the fed warp in vessels are buildable instead and have minor federation races like the vulcans andorians etc provide warp in support?

Because those Federation members no longer have an independent military... heh.

Maybe, maybe not. Don't know for sure until it is said on screen.

How about being able to 'find' a race on a certain planet in the map, and then you can build said race's ships etc, as if you had 'enlightened' them or uplifted them to warp civilisation.

How are you to prevent someone like the Federation from doing that? They never would and the Borg would just Assimilate them.

Actually Many races in the federation still maintain their own military..Its not just starfleet...however starfleet was bout the only one ever featured...vulcans aside from having their own starfleet vessels maned entirely by vulcans also had their own vessels defense fleet for defense of vulcan and police action. I cant think of any others off the top my head..

Prove that one ryder :) Enterprise makes it pretty clear at the end that the Vulcan High Command was going to be disbanded and they were going to find other ways to solve their issues. Now i wouldn't rule out a JSDF style home guard, but thats about it. As for other races, the entire existence of SF (and the investment in it) makes all planetary or species fleets superfluous and obsolete upon UFP membership.

Police ships =/= military.

Vulcan National Merchant Fleet is also not a military. Having armed vessels is not enough to qualify as having a military. Perhaps grant some sort of militia, but not a full military. Once again, its illogical to duplicate the duties of starfleet. In all of the Dominion war where ships like those would be very useful due to the high competency of vulcans we still never hear about vulcan warships, just vulcan crews on starfleet ships.

I have to agree I am surprisingly more psyched about NPC races appearing then more playable ones. If you are curious the confirmed NPC races are the Breen, Bajorans, Species 8472, Cardassians, and Tholians. I'd love the Gorn and the Sheliak to show up though... heck even the Talarians would be an awesome NPC race.

I agree. I'd imagine the Vulcans, Andorians, Bajorans, Orion, and other Federation members maintain "home fleets" of their own ships to patrol their own sectors, conduct trade and diplomatic missions, etc., but Starfleet is charged with the defense of the Federation as a whole. Vulcans, Andorians, Bajorans, and Orion have all been seen to serve in Starfleet.

They still have "science vessles" and they would have weapons of some type and defensive systems of some kind.

Once again, just having armed ships doesn't mean you have a military.
