I always thought the "neck" should be a little longer then what we have in FlOps, and with the exception of some new textures, I think the current D'deridex is further along then it seems.
It's an absolutely beautiful design and was really one of the first (and best) departures from standard ship designs in Star Trek. It's one of those ships that says A LOT about the race that uses 'em - not unlike the Borg Cube. Other designs are nice, but don't reveal much about the race that uses them.
I feel like the CGI designers for Babylon 5 did it best, though. When you look at a Narn G'Quan cruiser you see a utilitarian race that basically welded 2 big lasers, a hanger bay and a reactor to 3 big engines wrapping the hull with crew habitation and a bridge - almost as an after thought. Or the Centauri Vorchan warship, with it's seemingly extemporaneous fins that show a race, perhaps, putting form before function - displaying a decline in basic engineering princible.
I could go on, but who wants that?
