The mod that fleet ops is makes the game completelt different and awsome. so wouldnt it be a good idea to team up with a game company or on your own make a fleet ops game, that way you have more control over what you can do then by just modding a game?

The gaming industry is a horrible place. The team would end up with less control over what they wanted to do if they did work with a larger company.
There's also the issue of Star Trek rights, afaik Activision still hold them all. That makes it legal to mod Armada II, if this became a game in it's own right (legally) then it would be subject to data protection and copyright laws. The infringement of Activision's property would cost the team BIG TIME.

but surely they could work out a deal they would have more money and more manpower to create a better game. we already have seen what they can do with a like 8 year old game engine supposed to run on windows me lets see what they can do now with new tech

i don't think so. You'd get controlled by the big company, and the game would suddenly become theirs, and the modding team would become little more than a footnote in a credit somewhere. And I bet that the game would turn out somehow looking like crap. And, as great as it would be to pay for a game of this caliber, I'd rather be able to get it for free.

This all wouldn't be good... first, the big game company takes it all, because they are "professionals" and know how to do it, than Fleet Operations would be turned into what everyone wants (Note: Not what the Fans want) because it is better for the Money
Yeah and so it goes on, everythings turned to be most moneysaving and -making, the original FleetOps Team wouldn't be even mentioned in the Credits because 35% of all Teammembers of any game didn't get mentioned and the probable release date of Fleet Operations The Game would be in 2032 because the Idiots at the Game Company are just that... Idiots and wanted to revamp FleetOps 3 or 4 Times by means of Graphic and so on...
And probably Activision isn't that happy about someones using Armada 2 to make profit so they will be sueing them for Copyright Infringement and want Millions of Dollars and more

Well thats not true you cant even tell by playing it that its based on armada 2, and you dont need to use this paticular engine and stuff to make the game, if you have the funding itll be much easier to do. And fleet ops already has a bunch of people who play it so im sure some game company would be interested, seriously they make some pointless games out there, and fleet ops isnt pointless so itd work. Yeah maybye itd get twisted a bit, but you approach with an idea or a modle, which they have in flet ops v3 and they would retain alot of control. Even if it didnt turn out exactely how they liked. It be an up to date game with everything up to date, so this team could go back and make a new fleet ops mod using the new game, which of course would be so much better.

It's a pipe dream.
I know the FO team are EXCELLENT modders but...
It's a harsh world, and honestly I don't know if there are enough non-pirate trekkies to buy the game to neutralize start up costs.

Yep, the game-economy is a swimmingpool filled with sharks: you don't want to swim in it unless you are one of them. But thats a fundamental discussion about how economy basically works.
The Fleet Operations project will never become a real software product, cause its a difference in spending hours, days, weeks, month and years in a hobby, then transforming the hobby into real work. It just changes the way you think of it. We enjoy working on Fleet Operations and thats why we will keep it that way.
But well, there are other ideas floating arround in our wired heads besides Fleet Operations, who knows what the future will bear...

regardless - this is by far the best mod ive seen so far. not just for A2 but for other strategy games.
for nothing, except the devs actually take the pains to listen to the requests (ill ignore the cardie and scimitar for now
) and go all out to develop a good product that has dynamics that are at least intended to be as realistic as possible for the STU.
