I was thinking about Armada II's, and fleetops, system of red, yellow, and green alerts. So let me get this straight: Yellow alert is a button you click to DEactivate a ships weapons...and green alert turns off the shields too! What's the point of that?!

So I wanted a use for them. And, I came to a fairly reasonable conclusion: giving ships at yellow alert a speed and shield recharge boost, and ships at green alert a larger speed boost. Why? Simply put, a ship only generates so much energy. Now, if that energy could be used to, say, power the shields and engines as opposed to weapons, the ship would logically become faster and regenerate shields more quickly. You'd also have to be careful, however, because after going to red alert from yellow it may take on the order of 2 or 3 seconds to bring weapons back online. Re-activating shields from green alert would maybe take one or two seconds.

I really like this idea, so what do you think, fleetops guys?

Hmm, good idea.. I usually put my Dominion Prototype ships on Green alert with Low autonomy movement....and for every other ship, I use Red alert.. It'd be cool to use Yellow and Green alert on more...uh.. mainstream ships..

putting a ship in green alert could also yield a repair speed boost :) .

also just to give you a hint /(secret?), putting a cloaked ship into green alert status makes them invisible to the tachyon detection grid, however you cannot attack at all (even when specifically instructed to do so).

Not much to say, except that it's an awesome idea.

I'm almost tempted to pull out the old dusty A2 disk to try it out...

That's a great idea! I'd like to see it at least in one of the future releases.

(But as you all might know already, I'd like to see a lot of things...  :sweatdrop:)

Its definetly an interesting idea. Fits in with the logic and canon of the universe too (ships having limited power/redirecting to other systems). It sort of reminds me of Bridge Commander/Starfleet Command.

It would need alot of balancing and tweaking in terms of what benefits come from which modes, but i would certainly consider it if its possible. Nice one Tempest!

Now, I guess we wait for Doca or Optec to take a look.  And respond, of course.

putting a borg ship into green alert could in fact be putting them into a state of regeneration, without special energy use, and without the offensive weapons fire as well. (both system & hull repair)

Rommies could get a sensor boost. ( would work extremely well with a cloaked scout)

Fed a smaller (than borg) system repair boost.

klingons ???? cant think of anything for them.
