I would first like to say hello, and that I think the idea behind this mod is great, I still have 7 hours left before mine is done downloading, but what about using and modifying the current Ion Storm odf, for a swarm of fighters launched from a starbase?

Already got a carrier class but maybe starbases could have a few too.

I dont like the carrier class however from a starbase sounds like fun

Well a carrier is basically the same thing except you can choose where you wanna use fighters.

yea I know, but with starfleet command 2 you had it and it was more irritating than usable, just like those damn drone racks

anyway a carrier would be destroyed in a few seconds and all the fighters would explode then or be useless, but with a starbase then you wouldn't have to tweak the weapons much up either and give them 10 fighters, they would have a 50% miss chance(so that the ships firing on them will have a 50% chance of missing) and give em some rapid firing pulse phasers (faster reload but much less damage)

The purpose of carriers is not to be near the battle, so if you get them blown up by sitting them inside a battle it's your fault :D

yea uhhuh....but 2 of the races can sneak to them with small destoyers or somefin and decloak and destroy em

I was thinking more along the lines of a cloud effect... like you target the are in which the fighters are assigned to patrol, then when a ship enters the "cloud" area it is gradually damaged by fighter fire, with the sprite showing, like the ion storm, a launch, except instead of a read "pulse" more of a fighter squadren, and just like where the Ion storm suddenly expands, so to can the squadren suddenly break formation.

something like a fighter station or something, good idea as non playable station to keep player away from each others until strong enough :)

sounds good, but I also like it as a player station or ship, perhaps use the special credits so that you can only build one carrier/station or give every starbase fighters wich have a max combat radius ofcourse and have to refuel once in a while (uses 1 special energy per sec something like that)

ok, but first we will see how the avalon performs with it's fighter and how it is liked, then we will do bigger balancing and basic changes to the races again (v4).

sure, thats why this forums exists :) beta 1 just was our communities playground to have their ideas to get into fleet operations :)

I think we have some Protoss infiltrators here, with all this talk of carriers and dozens of fighters :ph34r:
