I think it would be interesting to add a little more diversity to the way the different races harvest resources.
So I would like to suggest the Federation Particle Fountain.
Particle Fountain Wiki
It's canon, and it was meant to be ready two years after the TNG episode that featured it.
That places it easily within FleetOps time slot.
Instead of building freighters and resource docks, you just build a PF for each moon.
Maybe it should orbit the moon like the mining station orbited planets in stock A2?

I thought that the FO dev team was going to look into things like this but it would be a while.

What if that was used to harvest supplies for the Feds?

That would be a cool way for the feds to harvest

Preferably for tritanium or dilithium... supplies would just be a crude knock off the Ketracel Synthesizer >:(

Sounds a lot like the old A1 Orbital mining station wich mined metal from the planets that they were placed in orbit around. So implementing them to me in my humble opinion would not simplify game play. With the present resourse gathering system one can switch mineing ships from one resourse to another when needed. The nessity of having to place a Particle fountian for every moon would get very cost prohibative to inplement .I feel doing so would lead to having to add a nother layer of micro managenent to the game .

It was A2, and I think it was said before that the method has more similarity to Borg efficiency.

(As for being too much like borg, no real danger of that. The borg's main resource mining thing is only needing the miner, no construction ship, that's different enough that it's not a copy)

Perhaps it can be used to harvest resources/supply on a planetary body?

Tyler I stand corrected been a while since last played on wich game it was.But I feel to implement the use of the Pf would be a step backwards to the old days where you had 4 resourses one had to manage (1)Dilithium ,(2)Tritanium (3) Metal and (4)crew. to use such a orbital facility to mine metal from planets might work if the maps had planets in them. but most maps now do not.Tyler wrote:It was A2, and I think it was said before that the method has more similarity to Borg efficiency.
