I only know FlashGordon's sountrack, which was made by the best band ever! ( IMHO  :D )

BORING!!!!!! the have taken a little artistic liscense  with the visuals.  Just like the Old Flash Gordons serials (pre  1980's) The ray guns was a directed MASER device, yet you saw a beam come out of it for visual effect.

Maybe Starfleet decided to just add a superficial beam of light to phasers because they wanted their weapons to be flashy?

Considering Starfleet likes good-looking ships and interiors (aside from a few notable designs), I wouldn't be surprised if they actually did...

I would rather see all turrets be redesigned to be like the perimeter defense building the dominion has. Instead of building another turret for a different turret why not let it be upgradable to fire pulse phasers and torpedos.

Example for feds:
You build the phaser turret, then you build the science station and unlock the pulse phasers, you pay X dil and X Tri to give that turret the ability to fire pulse phasers as well as the normal phaser. Obviously the defense and offense stats increase after a upgrade. Then you build the bigger shipyard to unlock the torpedos, which again you pay X dil and X tri to give that turret torpedos. Again the stats increase so that its worth upgrading and wont be destroyed as easily.

I think that would make turtling too easy. Turrets would effectively be mini starbases. Leave them as they are, and then the early turrets you build (phaser turrets atm) will become less useful later on, just as destroyers do, which I think is a good gameplay mechanic.
It encourages you to build biggger better ships.
