I was thinking it would be interesting to have a ship that is largely experience dependent. For instance the ship would start out relatively weak say with 15 attack and 15 defense but once it reaches level 5 it would be a powerful warship with an attack of 40 and defense of 40. Also considering the steep power gain the level of experience should be higher than that of a standard vessel. And as for the reason for the steep power gain could be something like learning how to use the vessels advanced weapon systems.

Sounds like a good idea for an "Experimental" ship...

Yes, I agree. That sound's raly nice!
But it would be difficult to balance that ship out. What is it supposed to cost?
And I have a suggestion: Perhaps it's a good addition to combine the experience-based ship with expanding modules. I mean to say for every experience-level the ship reaches it can be upgraded with a player selected system-module to increase values and add special abbilities for example. It's like the construction of a Borg vessel.
And perhaps it's more realistic to increses a ships stats by installing upgrades than only train the crew.

I just have another idea: Why can't the ship go back to a shipyard and get a refit there.
Finaly the experience-based starship reaches the 5th level and a new button is available to use. By clicking on it, the ship moves back to the yard and gets a new hull and several upgrades. That new version of that ship should be only available by training the previous ship.
Don't know if it's possible to realise that with Armada2, but perhaps...

It is balanced by the fact that it need more experience than most ships. Also it would not just be once it hits level 5 it gets a large strength increase, i was referring to a more gradual power curve, but it should be steeper than a regular ship. Personally i prefer to think of it as getting the bugs worked out of the system.
