Would it be possible to implement a starship command that would force it to maintain a position relative to the vessel being escorted?  I know the Defend command comes close, but the escort ships are usually trailing....and I would prefer to have them lead.

I think something like this may also be possible in the Formations commands, but I would specifically like the ability to set-up where each ship is in a formation, rather than having the AI randomly decide.

Just food for thought....  :D

Right now just trying to get the guard command from the menu takes long enuff for enemy ships to escape sensor radius before I click on them so my cloaked fleet can follow. I wouldn't want it take any longer to tell my ships to guard.
I think that after you click on the ship you could then click an area on the map and the ship would maintain that position, moving to keep same relative position to the gaurded ship, if you right clicked to get out of guard command after clicking on a ship then it would be the normal guard behavior. This way the added time is put after the crucial moment of clicking on the ship.

to use guard without clicking the orders menu you can use the hotkey G

push G and the cursor changes to the guard select cursor, then you click the ship.

also if u have the cursor already hovering over the ship, then pushing G will automatically issue that ship the order.
