I just wanted to post two ideas (requests sounds too demanding for me) I had latly. One is the energy nodes.
Why not have a station, something like a turret, that is able to recharge shield and special energy of a targeted vessel very fast. This would make a quite effective tool in defense, as it strengthens your defending fleet and your turrets. To make it more interesting you could make this recharge beam cost special energy which refills rather slowly, but on the other hand one station could refill the next one with just slightly losses of special energy. By doing so a great reliability is achieved by building up a big energy supply network. What do I suggest these stations to look like. Central element of such a structure is a quantum-singularity-emplacement, connected to a long thin cylinder which is used as mass injector, which is also connected to a large fuel tank. At the other side of the sngularity a big plasma coil is connected to hold the latly generated power, and some emission turrets, on it's boundaries. Quantum singularities would fit to romulans, but it could also be used for an additional race and be largly emphasised there, which could make a new unique gameplay for that race.
I somehow always liked the transworp-channels, but they were not incorporated into that game for serious reasons. There is my simple idea to overcome that reasons. Tha gate has to be opened from 2 sides. This is very realistiv, because a warmhole would most likly (if they are possible at all) evolve, when 2 spacetime-formations are already present. By thatyou have to build stations at both openings of the porthole. The target of the wormhole-weapon has to be an other porthole station then. Advantage: You can't wormhole youself beyond the borders.
Please tell me what you think about that ideas! Have a nice evening!

I imagine these ideas would work beautifully for the Iconians

Are Iconians gonna be station builders? or at least rather defensive?
Would be nice to see it largly incorporated there, but i believe the FO team has already made up their plans. So I think it will at best be the next fictional race.

So basically, the portal is a more primitive version of the Borg Tranwarp Hub?
Sounds more like a Stargate than an Iconian portal. Though, it would prevent people from using it to spam ships straight into the enemy base.

how can u associate a twarp hub as a special weapon with spamming ships?
U build them and u send them. If you have built x quantity u sent them. The hub merely opens a pathway.
It's like saying ship movements of any kind would constitute a spam? The way the borg are atm, they certainly do not spam, and a Twarp hub is not anything that facilitates spams.

....This can be associated with spamming because you send the ships directly into the enemy base (think warp again).

I like both ideas, the station that refills shields reminds of the asteroids the dominion used for their orbital weapons platforms in the chin'toka system. though they were cardassian in design, possible structure for a future cardassian race? The turrets could be set up to use special energy for weapons fire and have no shield recharge, the asteroid station could recharge both at a rate thats reasonably tough. But the main weakness would be to destroy the asteroid base first and not the turrets.
The transwarp hub is cool but I personally feel the borg should have a permanent hub that operates as a shipyard, and brings in the ships from the delta quadrant. It fits with the whole collective priority thing. reading the description implies that the borg are "sending" vessels based on need. Dont think it will work with the current customizable borg vessels though. Would be more borg like to have them enter from a transwarp portal though.

I like that idea very much, its like the feds warp-in feature, though it would take some balancing
Also on a side note: if you all remember the last episode of Voyager "Endgame" the Voyager trans
warped in, right into our solar system from the hub, and I'm pretty sure there wasn't second gate there. Just a thought.

I belive you are right, bit it's not sensible to incorporate everything we see in ST, if it is not necessary and more realistic in a different way, like anti-photons for example. ;-)
