Enemy sees less info

i wonder if this could ever be possible, or wanted:
you as the player can see all your ship's details, subsystems etc.
i think it would be reasonble that the enemy would see less, so they could see your shield status, and hull status. but not the strength of your subsystems.
obvious things like engines broken would be detectable as the ship isnt moving. so maybe if any subsystem is disabled or broken, the enemy can know. but they dont know about subsystems that are online and damaged. they just know they are online.
they also wouldnt know exact crew levels, presumably ships in war use sensor jamming to keep the enemy from figuring out which ships can be boarded.
if you are boarding a ship you would have full knowledge of that ship.

I like this idea.

In TNG at least, it seemed rather easy for them to simply scan and report "their engines are nearly down" "we've damaged life support such and such" - with such advanced sensors it doesn't seem to hurt

But equally, it seems just as easy for them to jam sensors using shields and other gizmos - for example, in "The Wounded" a Cardassian supply ship is able to block both the Phoenix and Enterprise's sensors by running a high-powered subspace field, and there are plenty of other instances where scanners have been blocked.

I think here we face one of the many problems in the show, how and where do we sort the actual reality of star trek from the story of star trek?

it's a good idea but a useless feature
it's not like people look at which ship to board (?) unless they desperately want to capture it
also for the sub-systems, they regen too fast when damaged and the ships functions properly, so that is a useless feature

to dust off an old tcr chestnut:
It would be realistic!
Seriously though, in a war you would actively jam enemy sensors.
I can see how this doesnt add much to gameplay though.
EDIT: optec mentioned something similar for ship names in another thread. saying how the enemy wouldnt be able to see the names of romulan ships, which sounds interesting.

With regard to the active jamming during a war, is it not likely that these jammers are disabled when a vessel is damaged.

depends, wouldnt be damaged every time, wouldnt be undamaged every time.
maybe give damaged ships a random chance to be visible to enemy.

Good thing we don't have to worry about any actual reality in Star Trek
