Double Cloak

An idea: Have an upgrade to Romulan cloaking that requires two 'pieces' of cloak detection at once to see it (i.e. have the overlapping area between two tachyon detection grids detect a 'super' cloaked ship, but the area covered by only one tachyon detection grid does not detect it)

sounds like an interesting idea. an update to the current cloaking system is planned which gives some more variety in cloak (detection).

I've noticed that large groups of cloaked vessels can cause framerate issues on my system (which is a medium-high spec machine). Is the because of inefficient coding, or simply down to the nature of the cloaking effect?

As all transparancy effects cause a pixel to be raytraced several times, such a behaviour is quite understandable. I don't believe there is a solution when the transparancy-effect stays that way.

yes, there is currently no way to solve that issue with the effect as it is.
