Hey guys,

Simple post, adding of a phaser to the aft of the Defiant?

It features in the TV shows, and Star Trek Legacy I believe, just seem like a nice little thing for the Defiant when it's being chased by numerous vessels. Would seem logical to add it in my opinion.

Thanks

If the Steamrunner isn't getting the Phaser it had in the movie, I really doubt the Defiant will get the Phaser it had in the series. If it was, someone would eventually ask for aft-firing Torpedo launchers...

You don't chase the Defiant.  The Defiant chases YOU:badgrin:

Well, a tavara could't chase a defiant because of the lack of speed, as it is too slow, and additionally, i doubt that the defiats phaser can really hurt the tavara.

Yes, canon must usually give way to gameplay. A small phaser will not fit at this time for the same reasons that most vessels don't get several beam weapons/torpedoes/pulses firing at once. Unit roles need to be kept otherwise balancing gets more difficult or even broken.

Hmmmm....... I got an idea... make it a SPW for the Klingon refit. Kinda like the Multi-purpose weapons, the Defiant can have it firing a dogfight range phaser (aka really short). But in effect the pulse phasers have their fire rate reduced by 40%. And another thing... each phaser shot costs about 3 points of special energy. ;)

The klingons would never develop such a thing because it would be dishonorable the romulans on the other hand.... :cloak:

How's trading a fraction of Pulse Phaser efficiency for an extra conventional Phaser 'dishonorable'?

I do think the defiant needs something more. For its price its not worth it to build. The defiant should either get a speed boost or some other upgrade. Maybe extremely thick armor or a cloak by default not just factional.

A Speed boost and size decrease would made a perfect Defiant. Of course, the speed boost being optional for balance, but the size decrease wouldn't be a serious threat.

Sorry poor choice of words how about cowardly since in order to use it you would have to be retreating.

Retreat isn't cowardly, running in fear is. Klingons have no problem retreating and they've done it several times.

There is a difference between a 'cowardly flee' and a 'Tactical Retreat', even General Martok has no problem doing the latter.

well ok i guess i agree with you however my point is still valid do any standard klingon ships have rearward firing weapons

At least one varient of Bird of Prey and the K't'inga class had at least 1 aft Torpedo launcher that was only shown once, while the larger ships would likely have full coverage.

Even if you don't intend to retreat often, it would still be rather stupid to leave your ships with such an inevitably painful weak spot.
