So I haven't made a feature request in forever!
Ok, so Dominion prototypes are buildable, and after that you can que up that ship only after the prototype comes out. While normally you can and should be on the ball as to when the proto comes out so you can start building your new ships, it's easy to forget if you're in the heat of battle microing your ships, or if you're training the new guy, or even if you're in the heat of battle microing your ships while training the new guy!
So I was wondering if it was possible to be able to build the prototype, and then queue up those ships while the prototype is being built. This would be nice for those moments when you really need need to focus on other things like building supply stations or making sure your fragile fleet of bugs isn't getting destroyed.
You can already do this using free tech, where right after you queue up the prototype you can cue the other ships. It of course allows you to exploit the system by letting you cancel the prototype after you've selected the number of ships you want, and lets you build that ship at other yards. Of course, that's what free tech is for, so that you can avoid having to actually build the prototype, so it makes sense there.
I'm hoping there's a way to make it work without exploits, so that if you cancel the prototype, the next ship won't actually be able to build, as if there were insufficient resources or something, that it would still require the prototype to either be in queue or be built before you can make any more ships. Anyway, it's just a thought.

I dig it: never liked seeing that you could queue ships up after you wasted all that effort obliterating the prototype and put out 10 ships before you had to restart. Plus, would make it a heck of a lot easier to plan out builds rather than having to check that your proto is done every few seconds

I agree that it made no sense that if the prototype was destroyed but you had the same type ship in the build Que you could still build it . Ide love to see that you had to build a Specfic Prototype "Skunk work yard" for both the large and small yard ships. Doing it that way if the prototype ship and yard were destroyed you would have to rebuild the "Skunk works yard" as well the prototype ship lost . Doing so would close the loop hole, and make the prototype ship and yard even more valuable to you and your opponent . If the prototype was destyoyed under this plan you only have the material cost and time cost involved in the prototype ship build , however if both the Prototype yard and the prototype ship were destroyed both would have to be rebuilt to build a new prototype . Any specfic class's prototype destroyed those ships are removed from the "normal production yards" till the class prototype is rebuilt.
