If possible instead of being able to select enemy or ally when setting up a game for instant action... it would be cool if you could instead handle this in-game. For instance everyone starts as neutral and then you can set up treaties and start wars and so forth. I also think being able to set up borders and expanding them would be cool, and entering another races border would automatically start a war and make them your enemy.

From there this could expand to trading and open border agreements and so forth...

There is the alliances mode which allows you to switch sides in game (ally, neutral, enemy).

Isn't that only for multiplayer, I was talking mainly about instant action. But as I understand it FO, is more for multiplayer which I don't/can't play. The way I think it is now, is kind of limited. But I did forget about that alliance mode thing.

Enter the multiplayer and set up an alliances game, save settings and exit.
Enter Instant action and load settings.
Voila !
After the game starts you may set the AI to neutral, or if you attack it it will turn hostile.
Hope this helps, i know it's not perfect, but ...

I love the border idea.

I've always thought there should be like an infinite mode, where you have to effectively manage a race for an infinite time, keeping borders happy, researching could take like quadruple the time it does now. Basically just stretch things out a lot more.

Sounds a lot like "Total War" to me
I don't know if it's even possible but a mod for one of the "Total War" games would be fantastic! You could have epic battles, evolving factions and treaties, trading, don't know what else  B)

Hmmm ... interesting ... maybe I find it a good idea....
If I may to add something
but then I kind of rate in good and bad things about AI
an example: you can support him by giving different types of resources: Dilithium, Tritanium, and Supply, or perhaps a weapon technique or other technique ?
This way you can score very well with the person, so that hi your accepted as ally.
but if you do something wrong, or you help him not, then you lose points
let us, that percentage or points nominate to royal points or something like that.

So what do you thinking about this?

If you mean using resources to gain how much the AI likes you, which would effect him becoming your ally, then yes this something I was actually thinking about already, I just didn't go into great detail.  :whistling: If you attack them, or declare war on them... then they could become your enemy. OR you could also have it where if you help someone they don't like then you would also become there enemy.

I also think something like this could become another way of winning the game. Right now its all about war and destruction. The Feds are about peace, so if you could persuade everyone to be your ally... this could be a victory condition.

And yes something like how Total War works but more Armada 2 style. Really I was thinking about Civilization 4 which has something like I'm talking about.

No I really was, it's just to simple just to click on someone and say "you now my ally", you got to work for it.  :shifty:
