Currently, the detail slider binds color depth*, space background, star counts, and possibly other graphic preferences together.
I hope they could be set with separated settings, e.g.
color depth - 16/32 bit
space background - on/off
star counts - low/medium/high/very high
and more...
*only the highest graphic detail is 32bit, but others are set to 16bit.

i have no problem with this idea since it is purely a matter of choice for people.
maybe put this in an advanced graphics sub menu, so that people have the choice to use the simple slider to move them all, or enter the sub menu to shift them individually.

The less the graphic settings are bound together the more players with older systems (or Laptops like me) can play Fleet Ops with a high frame rate.
By the word... Framerate... is there a possibility to show what framerate Fleet Ops has ingame?

i think fraps has a frame rate counter. fraps stands for frames per second which is the popular measurement of frame rate.

Where is the 64 bit color setting?
But yeah, I'll max out all the settings anyway... no change for me. I think.

Hmm, interesting. I have a nice rig so it doesn't apply to me, but it doesn't sound like an unfair request. I do have some suggestions for reducing lag, stuff I've picked up over time from a variety of games.
1. Anti-aliasing takes the most resources of anything: the difference between AA on and AA off is bigger than the difference between the graphics slider all the way up vs all the way down.
2. Also it's always a good idea to have the game resolution match your screen resolution if possible. bumping it down to 640x480 will help if your CPU is having trouble, but it actually makes it harder for some graphics cards because they have to constantly calculate the resizing.
3. Along that line of thought, if your problem is with your CPU and not your graphics card there's a way to improve performance: First make sure your other programs are minimized and not working on something, then hit ctrl-alt-delete to bring up the windows task manager. Go to the Processes tab and find 4 different processes, 2 labeled "Armada 2" and 2 related to tunngle. For each one, right-click on it and set the priority to "High" ("above normal" is also acceptable, "Real-time" is usually a bad idea). This will make your computer devote more cycles to the game and reserve more RAM for it to use and can give you a decent performance boost if you had a lot of background programs running (Windows Live Messenger, anyone?).
Hope this helps, if somebody was having lag problems.

The biggest problem have people like me.
I'm running Fleet Ops on a Laptop that is used as a desktop PC.
The build in nVidia gForce 9300M GS is made for the resolution of the laptop display (1280x800) but I'm using a 22" Display with the Laptop, too. It has 1920x1080 (HD) and that is really to much for the grafics card I think.
Playing Fleet Ops on fullscreen I must have AA off, if not it looks mostly like a diashow XD
The game runs with a lower fps that it has to. But is still playable. Using the editor is really hard on this settings... XD
I hope to get enough money to by a new PC soon

why dont u just run it on your laptop screen then. i use the same screen, but i bump it down to 1280x720 as that matches youtube's HD 720 resolution well.

I tryed it running on the laptop screen, but I would have to chanche my system settings than, cause, the 22" is my main screen.
Running it on 1280x720 looks wreid...

I tried it in the last minutes (before I got an systemfault and had to reboot XD)
I don't come along with it...
Maybe I should try it in window-mode.

The Fleetops team made a lot of improvements on the Armada 2 engine, this is greatly appreciated. But sometimes, or most of the times, the laptop or pc we can afford cannot handle it very well. With more settings available, there's possibility we can tweak it to a playable state. Currently Fleetops usually plays at 10 fps or lower on my laptop, but I can play Sins of a Solar Empire at 25~30 fps.
My old laptop specs:
Intel Pentium-M 1.5 Ghz
RAM DDR333 2GB
ATi mobility radeon 9700 64MB
native resolution 1024x768

Turn the AA off ill bet you would see a pretty nice improvement on the FPS

I'm very sure AA and AF are both turned off. If I set AA to 2x, fps of fleetops will be around 1~2.
Just played Star Wolves 3: Civil War, it also performs very well on low spec hardwares while graphics is still quite impressive.
