destroyed miners leave crates

Idea: miners with resources in their cargo that are destroyed leave crates of that much resource (or a percentage). The crate must be transported aboard the collecting ship, which would happen automatically if the ship isn't in combat and it touches the crate. (a player can use the transporter button and select the crate if they want to do it manually).
The crates will expire after a minute or so.
The must drop shields (aka transport it aboard) to collect is there to prevent Klingon style kill-n-get-supply like resource gathering by raiding. (aka no hit and run resource collection) You must kill and hold the position to take advantage of the resource collection. Allows whomever wins the fight there to collect, the defender recouping some losses, the winner reaping the reward.

Interesting idea. Perhaps a 20% chance of this happening? I like the idea of salvage.

this would work if the explosion effects didnt have miners explode so badly. if the hull of the miner explodes and disappears into a cloud, so will anything useful inside.
if ships could turn into debris it would be great.

Romulan ones could probably have explosives in some to discourage non-Romulan salvage. I could see them having mines set to detonate without an automated signal from the bridge when an alien ship is near-by.

I also would like this idea a lot it could bring some cool new elements in this game.
It would also make that people defend their mining even more so that the enemy can't kill miners and can't get the extra res of that fallen cargo. Maybe I would reduce the amount of cargo to 35% no one should be able to get the entire loading after a miner was destroyed.

I think the miner explosions could be toned down a lot. Maybe have a good chance of sometimes just having the hull split in half with some debris floating away (no explosion, or a delayed one for just the back half.)
