Designating fleet command vessels

Just a random (very unpolished) idea

Allow players to designate a "fleet command" ship. That ship will give a small bonus (+5% damage)* to all ships within a large range. The designated "fleet command" ship will take a negative bonus equal to what it gives other ships (i.e. if it gives +5% offense, it will have a -5% offense debuff). The down side is that any ship leaving the area of effect of the bonus will receive a 2x bonus penalty (i.e. if it was +5% damage, leaving results in -10% damage debuff). If the fleet command ship is destroyed, the same 2x bonus penalty applies to all ships that were previously under the influence of its buff.

The fleet command ship is "visible" as the fleet command ship (lore: all the extra comm chatter) as a golden highlighted ship.


Bonus  (simple version)
+5% damage increase 

OR

Bonus (complicated version)
+5% damage for offensive vessels chosen as "fleet command",
+5% defensive bonus if defensive vessel is fleet command,
+2.5% offense, +2.5% defense for all-around

I like the idea, but I don't think the penalties are necessary.  If you are going to highlight the command ship, you might as well just give the bonuses for free until the ship dies or is out of range.  The catch would be that you can only have one fleet commander(Admiral anyone?) at a time until it gets blown up. 

Of course, this falls under the hero ship category and as such is not likely to happen. :(

I like the idea.

Perhaps a mild increase in attack power & shield strength at the cost of being easier to target.

Since Hero units are represented in game by rankups - how about making this a passive on some larger ships that are generally considered command ships (Sovereign, Galaxy, Negh'var, etc) when reaching a certain rank-up level?

It's not so much a hero unit, but a single unit with different properties.

A vessel equipped as fleet command can be an Intrepid or Vorcha with additional C&C installed.
I'd be something like extra power generators for additional shield strength at the cost of speed.

Or a single vessel equipped with an unique special which temporarily boosts fleet damage.

I agree that  upon reaching veteran the C3 (Command , Communications and Control  ) special is  available  to those ships  . The C3 special allows  the ship with it to direct  up to  5 ships  to fire upon a  designated target . those ships doing so wil have a 2% offensive boost and a -3% defensive Reduction. C3 special also links all ship sensors in X  range  together  increasing sensor  effective ness .

I like this idea. I'm already working on something similar for my mod :)
