With the patch likely coming out very soon (and we're all excited and grateful
), could I make one more request to have the Defiant's pulse aesthetic adjusted a bit?
Specifically I think it would benefit the Defiant a lot to have it's pulses come out in a burst rate of 3 (pew pew pew
) with a longer recharge period. This would essentially mimic a burst of torpedo fire but instead be pulses.
Again, the reason being for me that not only will it make the Defiant LOOK (key note: LOOK ... not BE) a bit more aggressive, but it will also emphasize it's role as a strike battlecruiser and late-game raider. Having a burst of fire followed by a longer reload rate would keep the DPS the same (so no changes to Offensive value would occur), but it would put that firepower out there just a little bit sooner so that more swift and measured strikes can occur. It could also very well help the Defiant chase down and destroy small destroyer before they are able to escape due to cloak or higher speed.
I lurvs me the 3.1.1 Defiant with Risner's avatar bonuses, but I still feel that it's a little tame in the sense that very often the destroyers it's extra effective against manage to slip away from me
.
Technically this is a very easy change to make. It's just an adjustment of a few ODF's, so do you think this is something you could add, Optec or are you against it?
Love,
Buggz

Idk how much time it would take, but any more time for this patch im against, personally, i dont think the defiant shoudl operate like that, i think in the show we saw it fire multiple bursts,
if it was to be different in any way, i would maybe make there a set number of bursts in a set number of time before the pause, and then have the time between those shots vary a bit, i hope that makes sense
so like, **--*****---***- longer pause , somthing like that

I second it. I'd actually prefer 4 bursts in the same intervalls but with half the power. Btw. could we also have the real shooting sound effect? As heard here starting from 0:56?

Well unless the ODF coding for A2 is something that magically looks the same but somehow is inherently different than A1 it should only take a moment to adjust a few values.
Optec has a nifty uber-program that let's him adjust many of the ODF's very quickly (as in the weapons for each rank) and such without going line-by-line. That would be nearly impossible, frankly.
It's really more reliant on just whether or not Optec is ok with that idea and willing to implement it. I just think it will offer the dual use of making the Defiant feel more agressive as well as dealing more damage upfront and in bursts as opposed to a steady change.
EDIT: @ Tyrus -- Oddly that's not the sound they used for the entire rest of the series. That sound was almost used more in First Contact, but the sound they use in all the rest of DS9 is here:
@ 00:46 seconds you'll see the Defiant firing pulse phasers against a Breen Ship. That is the sound they use for most of DS9.

You are right Boggz, but this sound effect is still different from the fleetops one. Fleetops Definant goes: k'tshung k'tshung, while DS9 Definant goes: pfee pfee!

Tyrus is truly a master of words!
I'm definitely for the idea of different burts of fire...
Should we change the size of the Defiant while we're at it? Because in the shows the true scale is... Nah, I won't push it.

remember the time the defiant was seen next to the galor class kraxon, and it appeared to be tiny.
plenty of other times it was huge also.

Meh.
I think the Defiant is quite an appropriate size in Flops
.
Any smaller and it would really be too hard to use properly

i agree, we cant go for canon size, or the borg cube would take up the whole screen.
maybe we could sell the small size of borg ships by saying the borg are devestated after janeway visited their quadrant and now have to build ships out of crappier resources, making them have smaller weaker ships than previous.

The Borg Cubes and Defiant are canon size right now actually
Look at the Cubes in Voyager - they are MUCH smaller than TNG Cubes. As Zeich explained, the Defiant's size is variable - he chose an average size

That would make the Defiant more of an 'accepted size' than a non-existent 'canon size'.

Then that means there are NO canon sizes at all - I think every single ship we've seen in Star Trek has changed sizes several times, no matter the actual dimensions that are stated to be true

Some ships are more consistant than others, like the Galaxy and Sovereign. Voyager, too.
