Damage to constructing Borg ships-make it stick.

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

I've noticed that in at least two recent replays (the one with Dodes vs. Saber spam and the one with early D'eridex), we saw ships being put in a dangerous position to do damage to a constructing Borg ships, and that the ships managed to build, thus getting full health.
I think that that damage shouldn't all go to waste, but instead it could be applied to the constructed ship, reduced by half (that way the ship still has most of its health if it does finish in time.)

i think that this would make the borg weaker. currently it is all too easy to slap down a borg sphere as it is building with a handful of low tech cloaked ships. even if you put it right next to your starbase, the starbase wont finish anything off if they repair, and if they go all in, the starbase will be lucky to get 2 or 3 kills. i'd trade 3 klingon field yard ships for a sphere anyday of the week.

the only option is to turtle with dodecas in your main base.

if the damage persisted then they would just stick around and finish it off.

hopefully with the new borg space stuff coming, it will be easier to defend a borg ship that is building. maybe it could get a bonus by being within borg space, the closer to a starbase you are, the larger your defensive powers, then when finished building you lose it.

Once you build the Sphere, it will have over half health and can Regen. If you're opponent has enuff ships to take it down while it's regenning next to a Starbase, I don't think it'll even get built in the first place, and if it does it probably wouldn't do any good on the field with full health considering the fleet it's facing.
This will not make any Borg ship easier to kill while building, and once built they will have 50% hull plus 50% of the hull they had while at the end of construction. If your opponent's ships weren't enuff to kill it while it was building, I don't think they're gonna kill it while it's sitting next to your starbase...

And the ships not build on-top of a Starbase?

You place the Uplink where it isn't protected, you pay the price because it isn't protected.

And I mean near the Starbase, since it only takes like a second to get close to it.

The reason that the ship's health is being reset when construction is complete is because you weren't hitting the ship at all.  Instead, you were hitting the shipyard.  The shipyard is destroyed anyways when construction is completed.

Though, if the shipyard (that is the collective uplink building the vessel) takes say 100 hp in damage, that 100 hp should be transferred to the ship it builds.  Of course, some ships can regen that 100 hp in a split second.  I would like to see the collective uplink utilize subspace fields.  When the construction starts (if it ever starts), a subspace field would go up around the uplink, protecting it, and the vessel from weapons fire.

The scaffolding seems to not completely cover it, so I think a good deal of damage would hit the ship as well. Even if some kind of field is put up, I'm not a fan of instant snap-to-100%s that make all that weapons fire useless.

Agreed.  I would love to see the vessel take damage from weapons fire while under construction.  The subspace field idea I posted was just to prevent the vessel from taking any more damage than it already had.

Another idea I had, is to increase the hitpoints of the vessel while it's under construction.  So that as construction progressed, the amount of damage would stick, but the vessel would get stronger as it was being built.  So catching it early in construction would be a great tactical advantage over catching it when construction is almost complete.

Ah, well that's interesting, but I don't think it would be very useful.

Sounds interesting, tho I think too much variance could make people decloak right as it starts building and finish it off too quickly. Maybe 20% difference in defense would work, with a smooth transition?

If they discover it late in the process they can damage it, making it weaker and vulnerable.

If it has to use regen just to get back to full health, it will lack the sphere's main strength, regen.

Keep in mind the damage would be halved. So if they come late and damage it a little, it's only going to suffer half that damage. A Sphere with maybe 82% health next to a starbase is less likely to die than a Sphere with 100% out in the open I think.

out in the open is irrelevant, your proposal makes it weaker than it is now. Something it definitely doesnt need.

i think its realistic, but at the moment would hinder the borg some more. After the redo i'd be happy to see this come in balanced, so that firing on it gives some effect.

I'd lean more towards slowing building down, but not stopping it, as building is like regen but stronger.

I like that idea.  Could it be integrated into the vessel getting stronger as construction progresses?
