Damage subsystems = reduction in performance

Right now we have a situation where a subsystem can be damaged or temporary disabled.
Wouldn't it be interesting if damage to a subsystem caused a reduction in performance of said subsystem.

E.g. damage to engines would reduce speed and damage to the sensors would reduce the sensor range.

Hell I'd settle for the old 'if a damaged system is hit with a disabler it goes offline until at 100%' bug being removed.
