What would you thing about extra damage-models and wreckage-models for the vessels? Depending on which of the five vessel-systems is irreparable damaged you can see it at the 3D ship model not only on the little tactical screen. This could be realize in form of extra sod, odf data and/or specially textures.

A further idea is a “heavy-damage-ship-level”. These wreckage-ships could be capture by all races but first of all they must tow to the next repair station or yard. That means the wreckages can only repair there and at the repair ship could be a tractor beam added. It shouldn’t be the same like the system offline modus after a special weapon attack or a side seeing in a special-nebula  ;) ) For other races other classes can added with a tractor beam.

Here a small number of examples for the federation:

If the warp drive is heavy damaged there is an extra damage-model with only one nacelle (Reliant in Star Trek II).

When the live support system is heavy damaged then the ship losing a part of the saucer section (Deep Space Nine - first episode, the excelsior class in wolf 359 battle).

it is posible to use armada 2 damage system or like some one pointed out legacy damage system. they are boath good but armada 2 is compatible 90% i am not sure for legacy one , its bether than armada 2 but its going to take FLOPS team a long time to make ships use 2 models at once , and i am not sure is it posible to make ships act like in legacy , to shoot at random so that damage can mach hit points.

i am not aramada 2 moder so i cant say how much this culd take but if legacy moding is of some help id say some X time and we will all get old and die in some X/2 time.

i hope i am just another jackass who cant count (math is not my strong side) days until next patch.

What I wonder is if it would be possible to have mesh disappear on subsystem damage rather than appear. It would be close to the Legacy system, visually, and would probably be easier to do than completely reworking the damage system.

Also, it might be possible to fake damage scars on whatever point is struck by using the impact-sprite thingy but that might not work well with shields.

The thing is... in A2, ship systems are never irreparable. It's possible to add model pieces or sprites when systems are disabled, but to make the nacelles look destroyed would be a bit silly as they'd just reappear when the engines are back online.

Plus, you can only add model pieces/sprites, not remove them. So you wouldn't be able to model a chunk taken out of the hull, etc.

I am not a modler or one who roots around in the  game files much . So I dont know if  this ispossible . Although the missing Naceles may not be  easily done for now . But I do like the Idea of  severely damaged ships that have to be towed back to a yard or Special  dedicated  repair  facility. May be  use the same models as now ,but the ship functions have to be "reset"  back at a yard. What I mean is the ship can not  be boarded or repaired by repair ships. If crew are beamed aboard  they(crew) will die  at 75%  of crew beamed aboard per second rate. The  Deralict ship/ severely damaged  ship cannot bring power  or life support online  even if repair ships are present in your fleet or move  on its own.

but to repair a derelict you need to put some ability to repair jards

The heavy damaged derelict thing could be possible if it is done like the rankingsystem with a low % chance to not explode but be heavily damaged after loosing all hitpoints. Something like a hidden special ability.
Then you could use a different modell. Maybe even more then one choosen randomly.

Then you just need a ship with a tracktor and a yard with a special repair ability.

Hey Quatre I think the idea with the rankingsystem is a good opportunity to realize a “wreckage-mode” for the ships. Especially for ships with veteran abilities or higher ranking it could be a nice option to rescue them. After a little smaller explosion they drift in space as wreckage.

To distinguish severly damaged/Deralict ship from  other ships may be as you hover you mouse over the ship it displays a differnt GUI color (Orange) to dicern it from normal ships. What I mean is like when other Gui's display a darked out screen when  a item or cobo of items are  needed for the ability to be unlocked.

ships which should be destroyed instead lyiing around with just a bit of hull left, just like in the bugs special? guess thats possible, altough it would have to change to a different "ship" or something to not allow crew on it. if it's a new ship it could also have i new, damaged model i think, altough i have no idea if its possible...

i believe damage could be displayed on the ship with the same method thats being used for the ship names, an overlay texture that shows some burnt scars. may not be as cool as a chunk taken out of the hull or a broken nacelle, but would add realism just like the ship names or borg stuff on assimilated ships  :thumbsup:

The „weckage ranking“could be matching to the „veteran-ranking“. The more points of battle experience a ship gathers, the more it is the rest of the vessel as a wreckage. Furthermore it should be possible for other ships the derelicts manual (deliberately) or rather finally to destroy.
