My idea is that if the engines take too much damage the the ship's core the core will start to overload. There will be a count down 30-60 seconds untill the core breach's and destroys the ship. Now you can save the ship in two ways. First, your crew can contain the breach and second you order the ship to eject the core. Any ship in range of the core explosion will recieve damage based on how close they are to it.
This is just a basic idea, so post your replies and tell me what you think.

Thanks, I think this idea could bring the game ( Fleet Ops is no longer a mod to me anymore) a little closer to being more real.

It could work something like this: if you have a group of 5 ships, so about 20%(2 ships will have a core breach) will breach. If you don't give the order to eject the core, then the crew will try to contain it, then in the last few seconds they will try to eject it. If the core is ejected in time then nearby ships will evacuate the blast range of the core, if the crew is too late then the ship will explode and damage any nearby ship.

And the chances of succesful contanmet could be lessened if crew is less. but it sound like you would loose some controle of your ships, and some times that jsut not cool. lol

Well it could be done differently, but that would be the basic idea.

Well.. I used to do light-ODF editing and I know such thing would not come easily.. and besides, isnt it too "specific"? in BC, it would be viable to have that option but in FO, where you command 65+ vessels, I dont think it is realy needed..

I concure, the idea is a good one but really doesnt have a place in a game such as this.
