Ciadan Subspace Weaponry

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

Hey guys,

Was reading through an intelligence report on the Ciadan and noticed these:

'This was how Kaseidron began his lonely travel through subspace'

'Essentially the Ciadan are not brutal. They don’t “kill off” whole populations--like the Borg would do. They just don't think of all the consequences their actions might have, especially if it’s not them who have to live with the consequences.'

Ok so after reading this, am I to assume that the Ciadan are likely to have advanced Subspace weaponry (Banned in the UFP due to  unpredictability). I think this could make for some interesting game play

No... I think that is the Sona more or less...

They don't think of what their actions will do to other races, I doubt they act the same way towards themselves... Only genuine retards (and some reckless races like the Son'a) use those kind of weapons.

Sorry bit off topic, are the Son'a being added to the Dominion at some point?

Yes, that is correct: Optec stated some time back that they will be in as the third avatar--not as integrated in the tech tree as the Breen :)

aye, true :)

I could, however, see the Ciadan using Subspace transporters (granting them a signifigant boost to how far they can beam troops).

Whar are the main commontly accepted properties of subspace?

Distances are shortened --> faster than light in normal space

Masses are reduced --> inertia can be compensated easier

Gravity and spacetime can be manipulated far easier --> warp, shields

Anything else?

Not sure what else Mimesot: probably can make up some other stuff, as it is subspace afterall... anything can happen there in StarTrek

The Ciadan won't really have troops I think Silent93... unless they use robots (they are really weak physically).

You mean the cidans are physically weak, not the robots. May cidans have troop-transports that consist of a few cidans and loads of droids? What may be displayed as crew then? Would cidans construct ships like the StarWars Trade Federations Ships (Few living crewmembers controlling droid soldiers and droid space-fighers) ? This would not be what I expect, but would give a new meaning to fighters and troops.

Concerning our expecations on subspace behaviour: Subspace Physics, version 2.0

Some ideas for a general cidan features:

Subspace diving. A ship can increase its depth in subspace thus reduce the interaction within normal space. When going deeper the energy drain rises, the visibility lowers, the damage taken is reduced, and the speed rises. Hopefully it is possible to male at least 3 levels: Normal Space, Layer of partial interaction (maybe the "home"-level) and a deep subspace level, where you are like phase cloaked with implications (like you can not watch normal space from subspace easily, probably probes will be necessary). The dive down and up times should be long enough to balance such  feature.

Normal space stress. When being in the  uppest level of subspace, precisly normal space, the crew would suffer from an illness, caused by the lack of subspace particles. To compensate this, after some time in normal space, energy needs to be used to generate personal subspace fields for the crew. If the energyruns out, the crew will die.

Energy-Nodes. There may be energy nodes, turrets that provide enough energy to constantly replenish the energy of vessels so they can stay in subspace at higer depth permanently. Maybe a mobile (expencive) one too.

Subspace-escaping torpedos. These weapons, can be fired from subspace into normal space, but they need a huge time to surface to normal space.

I like the 'Normal Subspace Stress' idea, maybe instead of resources, keeping crew alive could replace it in this case.

I'm pondering on how a subspace-level-system could be implemented. Somehow like additional cloak modes with different parameters. Is something like that possible?

That link is awesome! ^-^

Nice ideas btw.

Awesome ideas I admit.  But are we talking about microing whole fleets of ships which can individually be submerged into different levels of subspace?  Selecting specific ships to submerge/emerge them could be a logistical barrier to effective combat in late game.  I suppose if you had a different button for each level, rather than cloaking's same button to cloak/decloak which annoyingly coaks your one uncloaked unit when your trying to uncloak the entire fleet, or vice versa.

Thanks!  :D

I'd say 3 or 4 levels should suffive for the uiqueness of the cidan race. More would become unhandy I believe. I think your idea of 1 button for each level is most appropriate.

Still I have no idea how to create the subspace levels.  :pinch:
