I have been playing FO for quite some time now and would love this feature, as I am sure many other would too.

For example, the A key switches to Allys, and C could be for all or something like that. This would definately make things easier

Bump! (because this is a good idea)  :sweatdrop:

When the "waiting for player X" window pops up, or when you hit pause, you can't switch ally/enemy/etc communications, which just makes it a royal pain in the rear since you then have to wait in silence, or can't inform the other folks not to press "eliminate," but instead be patient and wait a few more seconds.  :sweatdrop:

Errr..... how about this? You insert the code and the msg is automatically defined after a double slash.

Examples:
Send msg to Dominus = To: Dominus //
Send msg to Team1 = To: Team 1 //
Send msg to Allies only = Ally //
Send msg to Enemies only = Enemy //
Send a threat to your enemies (bold and scary text face) = Threaten //
Send msg to Federation Players = Feds //

... ans so on and so on...

Hehe send a threat to your enemies!  I could have a lot of fun with that but that could really PO some people who take the game seriously. Probibly would even PO me if it was from people who are taking advantage of a bug.
Also Devs, I think this was covered in another topic, but I might as well bring it up as it was a very good idea I think. Could we have some sort of sound for whenever we recieve a message? A voiceover kind of like, " a starship has left the yards", but this time "incoming transmition".
However if this were implemented for that threat idea, we could have a selection of different voicovers (race specific) to send to our enemies as taunts. Like what happens when someone gets a cube. After playing the game for a while we like to joke and use those cliches' from the shows. If you were klingon you could send a voiceover to your enemy saying "Honorless Patok!!!". For Dominion you could have a voiceover that says "the founders are wise in all things."
Heck this could work for talking to allys. It would be fun to hear "Today is a good day to die!", or "To battle!" from your allys.
Anyway, I dont know if this is possible but if it is it would be pretty hilarious.

i'll see if the shift+enter thing is possible, also chat message sounds...a 'beep' or something like that should be enough :D

well i also recomend that chating to only specific players be canceled, only to allies or everyone. In ffa players tend to ally against the winning player, they chat to the other player, while the winning player doesnt even know it. i agree with enter to allies and shift + enter to all

Hmm well Sometimes you need to ally against the other player. I have been double teamed many times and could pull myself out of it. If they are double teaming you there must be a reason like you havent attacked or you own most of the map. I have double teamed many times because someone has more resources than both of us combined.

To add to that: double teaming can be a lot more fun too. For instance, when you nailed my fleet going through the nebula to Funny's base--if you hadn't had done that, the game would have been over, but because you did, the game could have kept going :)

Teaming up usually keeps the games going for longer (and makes them far more interesting)--which isn't a bad thing in my opinion  ^-^

I though think double teaming might be important if the game hoster snuck in an Adaptable AI. Man! I wish we had that! I could be constantly training myself to eventually become one of the big guys! :(

Oh well...... I guess I'll wait... :whistling:
