Change avatar mid game

Another crazy idea just to throw it out there: Have the ability to change your avatar mid game.
Change would have some cost - i.e. all shipyards stop building, all mining processing ceases during the avatar change (i.e. you could call the ability: "Overthrow government", "Election", "Operational Realignment", etc). All shipyards would change over to the new avatar production abilities. You would however, keep all of the old ships.

lol starfleet is tired of mayson sitting behind his wall of turrets, so they send risner in with a fleet of phalanges to kick some arse. i dont think this is sensible, as the shipyards suddenly get the ability to build a new ship, why didnt they have this before? all mayson turrets with alternate weapons remain, but you can only build old standard ones from now on? why not build more of the old ones?
the dominion suddenly decide to abandon their alliance with the breen and go solo. all breen ships become npc?
martok and taqroja are not really best friends. if he took over from her he would probably try kill her and her forces.
the borg get tired of optimising so they switch to assimilate.
i think this should only be available to borg, they seem more likely to change directives, adapting to circumstances.

It'd also make the Borg REALLY powerful. Get recycling stations and some maxed out incubators and then switch and use them to build tons of Assimilators. Also remember that Borg have no shipyards to stop, and they don't need mining as much if you start as Optimize.

indeed, that would give borg long term power. maybe the avatar switch could require a large number of cc to use?

That's awesome. "This Isn't Working. We'd Better Call In The Specialist."
Gives me another crazy idea: I think a lot of people get strained over the ship choices between avatars, versus the bonuses. So.... while I've seen a few ideas for a 3rd avatar (I do not doubt we WILL see an official one shortly), but what do you guys think about something like a 'NO AVATAR' option, which would give you a complete build list, but no bonuses to cost/offence/defence?

Same here; swapping the avatar at will kinda makes the avatar selection seem a little redundant to me. Though, I do like the idea of a neutral avatar which uses the ships base stats without bonuses.
Now, we wait for the more important opinion. The one that actually decides what goes in the game.

Hehe, I think we already know what they'll say as something similar to this was discussed when the avatars were first announced
. Since you are commanding their armada and using THEIR funds/resources, switching just would make avatar selection not very important. Avatars will only get more important and cool in the next patches sooo

"Not very important" is regulated by the cost. An avatar switch that cost as much as a starbase would be a significant decision.
The borg "shipyards" are the uplinks.
(again, it's just a crazy idea - but I do like discussing ideas)

Well it would be really confusing.
and most avatars are focused towards early game while others are more towards late game. Im afraid it would be unbalanced... sorry

You think that Martok would trust you if you switched to his command after being part of TaQ'roja's illegal pirate forces?

If you really wanted to change your avatar, just capture a constructor ship from that avatar

its technically already possible to switch your avatar but it wont switch the existing ships to use the new bounuses and loose old ones (you wud need an auto replace weapon that uses the techtree) buy yh its possible to switch from one avatar to another
on a side note i am not in support to this idea as it does seam to make the original avatar selection a bit redundant
