would it be possible to get a ship to switch odfs when it gets assimulated (like when when it changes its texture if there is a texture with the _b tag

Probably, but the idea that the Borg don't keep assimilated ships long enough is present on the forum.

From what's visible on the shows, it would come down to effeciency. If it will conserve resources - keep the ship. If it will cost nothing extra to take it apart and replace it, replace it. If you don't need another vessel at the moment, take it apart and make something better.
However, when they keep one, they do tend to upgrade its systems as far as they can for the duration of the time they keep it.
I would say that possibly the simplest method for the system would be to make a new 'rank' that is triggered by being assimilated which counts as superior to 5 (in order to prevent strangeness from a race recapturing an assimilated vessel), and grants 10% increased speed, damage, and 10% reduction in damage taken, and a 5% increase to self-repair rate. Done like officer abilities, it would likely avoid annoying hiccups, I think. I'm no modder, though.

Well, with the efficiency part, I would think that the ships they assimilated they would never actually get rid of, just build the cube or sphere or whatnot form around the original ship, maybe a few ships, which would account for why most borg ships are so large.
Maybe when a ship has been assimilated, it could act like a flying collective uplink that can be made into any borg ship (or used as-is), but with a lower construction cost and construction time? Could give the option to take the assimilated ship's special abilities in module slots, as well.

That would be very-borg like and so, so cool. You could just subtract the cost of the original ship from the cost of a new borg ship of your choice. Special weapons of that ship would be cool, but should require reasearch to stop being overpowered.

You´re so right
Currently assimilating with the borg is just the same boarding other races perform, quite boring, it needs some twist to make it more borglike, i like the idea of transforming enemy vessels into borg nodes or structures.

What, like a Graviton Relay with the Sovereign's engine-killer special?
I would love that for messing up those stupid AI 'go to the heart of the base and ignore everything else' streams.

I like the idea of crewed Turrets with the Holding beam and an Auto-Assimilator to replenish that crew.

And adding to the collective uplink idea, maybe with assimilated ships when you select a node, it is applied to that ship then and there, instead of waiting until you build the whole thing, so you could get sovys flying round with holding beams and maybe..just maybe...tactical armor anyone?!

or maybe kinda like the tech assimilator, you capture a ship, then can put its' special weapon on just one of your ships??

Well what I meant by making the ship's special available as a module slot was just for the ship that the assimilated ship was made into, and I wasn't really thinking about making structures out of the assimilated ships, just ships; I don't see there being much point in making structures out of assimilated ships as the cost wouldn't be offset by too much, although it would make up for the assembly nodes that are much more expensive than other races' by not requiring an assembly node.

if you've have assimitlated a ship ...maybe you can install for supplies and/or resources a module on this ship. Weapons...regeneration....armour...whatever.
But the power of this module should depend on the vessel basic stats.
Maybe 2 or 3 modules on bigger vessels and borg modules replaces the original systems
new weapon -> no phasers anymore
armour -> no shields
regeneration module -> lower system value
if the ship can handle both ... it would be a bit overpowered...
and the ship energy is limited by their construction and warp cores, so it is not possible to have all systems running

Or maybe assimilating enemy ships will increase your priority...isn't that both realistic and borg like?

it would be cool if the borg got experience when you destroyed their ships. like the adapt to your weapons and tatics.

Hey! I actually love that idea
...or perhaps when they take a certain amount of damage
