Capturable Neutual Special Stations.

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

I dont know if this has been mentioned forgive me if it has but how about adding some neutual stations that grant special abilities when they are captured. Like in C&C Generals there were a few special buildings that when captured healed your units, gave you extra cash etc.

Maybe a few could be added in fleet ops that gave special abilities when captured such as extra resources generated every so many seconds or one that when captured and has the required energy can open up a fluidic rift anywhere on the map draging through 3-4 invincible or very tough Species 8472 ships that attacks everything in sight for 1 minute, which they disappear back through the rift.

Thoughts?

I think most of ideas like this has been explored before, a while back I wanted to see if they could make maps with star systems (notable planets) and make the game more strategic rather than tactical but they like it how it is so....I believe they have explored most of these ideas already and just don't want to make the actual game strategic but the ship combat to be strategic, types of ships is more important then ship placement for the most part.

Personally I would like to see more stations geared towards intelligence, like larger sensor stations and larger intelligence gathering ships.  This would lead to a larger game dynamic and allow for the different size (class) vessels to have a use, small/fast ships for intel and patrol, while larger ships for seige, and obviously ships in between.

Capturing planets/stations would be cool, if you gain a planet/station you gain a higher "pop" cap as in amount of supplies you can use on the battlefield...and this would lead to a greater importance on strategy and intelligence rather than pure combat, as it is now it is still just spamming of the right ships to counter the enemy ships.  Still a great game but no real strategy there.  More strategy because simply if you have more systems under your control you have to move assets to protect it but you can't protect it all with what you have so more advanced strategies form and develop.

For example if its a 1v1 match, one person has 5 systems other person has 2 the person with 5 has an edge because they can make more ships but the person with 2 also has an edge because he already knows where the enemy is going to attack before the enemy attacks which allows the smaller power to win and possibly push back and win the match.  Just like the dominion war, in the last days the dominion pulled out of most of their systems to combine their forces for a firm defense.

With this style you can have a bonus to dominion to be able to make ships faster or something, different planets can have different bonuses like the dominion do really well if they have a class K planet because of Tetracel White.  The different planets can have different bonuses and point values and moons, with this style it makes sense having moons...atm moons are just floating aimlessly in space.

I would really like to make the game really strategy based but most people don't like that so it makes sense not having all the stuff I want in the game but you should have this...this will make the game so well designed and refined...its great making each race specific but having a whole style of play for the game, designing the game to be an actual strategy game to match those of now, not just graphical wise but also gameplay wise, that would be epic.

Sorry I kind of took over your post... : /  Been a while since I have had to time to get on, its amazing how running stuff takes over all your time... : (  O, it would be a great idea to add neutral stations out in choke points to increase the strategic value of a specific point(s) on the map.

But anyways, great job team, you have done an amazing job.

I thought this was how mercenaries will be implemented, and i also thought there were going to be map objects. No?

I think they wanted to include neutral ships that are special but no stations though.  They wanted to include an experimental ship in one of the maps, not sure if they are going to in the future or adding it to the federation... : /  And mercenaries won't work, its like asking pirates to help kill the Borg, with mercenaries it will make the sides look weak and equal in comparison to pirates.  And the Federation, Dominion, and Borg don't use mercenaries, the Klingons want to kill their enemies by themselves for honor, and the Romulans would rather use the Tal Shiar.

The Dominion will use mercenaries. The Dominion 'hired' the Orion Syndicate to assasinate a Klingon Governor to screw over the Federation/Klingon Alliance. I doubt it is below the Tal Shiar to get others to do the Dirty work.

I think they already have this idea on the todo list :) When it will actually come into the game, well only the team can tell you :)

Prowannabe: I think we would all like to see what you have suggested in the game. The problem, as far as I know, is the A2 engine which does not allow sufficient maps to make such a thing possible. Yes, the original A2 had planets but they were really poorly made IMO.
So I dont think its that the team doesnt want to make it that way, its that they are limited and they wont decrease their standarts so low (which is a good thing IMO).
