Branching the Veteran Tree

Question: Would it be a good idea to have multiple possible veterans per ship?

Okay, I just want to say, the rank up thingy is a replace weapon. Replace weapons can change into multiple things (that is how you add to the warp-in list). So why not make it to where there is multiple possible veterans for each ship? Each different veteran can have its unique abilities and characteristics.

The problem with this is the ODFs. It would mean several hundred new ODFs, not to mention the stuff you need to come up with for that.

Other than that though it's nice...

Considering how many odf's are currently used, adding 1-2 more rank6 ships (and the veteran upgrades) wouldn't be too painful.

I wonder what this would be like as an Empire-specific trait... it would cut down the number of odf's you'd need to add.

I voted yes, but I can see three different ways of getting Veterancy that may affect my enthusiasm for this:

-Random bonus. Yuck.
-Selectable. Chances are I would end choosing the same bonus time and again, ignoring the others.
-Action dependant. The hardest to implement, but, in my opinion, the most interesting. The actions the ship has made to achieve the rank ups determine the bonus. For example, being a frontline ship brings a "frontline" bonus, while attacking mining stations and miners gives a more "support" bonus, a ship that ranks up by ambushing might get some kind of "stealth" bonus.

Sounds like some  has a Few  hundred thousand ODF's  Variables to  recode and write they want this option. So If you want  it get  writing!!! As for me I'll stick with what we have now.

Exaggeration, much? Going from 6 rank files per ship to 7 rank files per ship is hardly an increase of 'a Few  hundred thousand ODF's'...

Most weapon accuracy/power alterations don't apply to many ships, only specific ones.

there will be some additions to veterans in the future, but not within the next patches :)

Aha I love the way Optec puts a smile at the end of that, got that kind of 'Yeah we'll do it, but we'll make you wait :)' sound to it :P
