Borg Station Idea

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

I know there are like 5 other threads that talk about this, and im not the first person to bring it up, but what about a single large station for the borg? i know the best way to do it would be "research" and that would cause the chance of losing the entire base in one small attack. Let's set aside the fact that this could be quite realistic, and think about how it can be fixed. What if you rig a replaceweapon to trigger upon completion of "pod" construction that would spawn a "copy" of the station you just made, but separated from the station (and can make submodules that can do the same thing if necessary). What about this? The only other way i could think of to do it is if you built selectable "stubs" that spawned a station at the click of a button.

Something to do with the fact that if the station gets destroyed, the player loses EVERYTHING, unfortunately.

I don't think you guys quite understand. The replaceweapon would separate the station that was built, making it so that it would not get destroyed along with what built it.

Serpicious had a very long and detailed thread on this exact same topic, you might want to look it up.  Anyway, I have said many different times, I think it is a great Idea, but there is no need to start a new thread for an old idea.

While true, i figured that any threads with it would be too old and "thread ressurection" is generally frowned upon. *goes and looks up serpicuses thread* Edit: cant find that thread... where is it?

Thread ressurection is generally frowned upon when the thoughts have completely settled and have been laid to rest  :thumbsup:

Plus, there are plenty of threads that have been posted on this in the last 3-4 months which I don't think qualify as being completely "dead"  :D

Don't particularly like it I'm afraid. Not only would the stations would have to be completely changed in terms of sizing... etc, but it would also affect balance because I would never be able to build stations in someone else's base if I was under attack, because I'd need to build the main base first...
Likewise, on maps with small starting areas, I don't know how all those Borg complexes would even fit (as you really struggle to find places to build those huge stations)

so 3 things would need to happen: the size of an individual station would have to decrease, maps would have to get bigger, and there would need to be an "outpost" or something for the borg as well...

And even with that, you WOULD need to build everything again if the central station gets destroyed. Because you've got the rest of the base taking up all the space, and no way to get to it because it's surrounded by other pieces that overlap it's bit.

How about this:

The Borg assembler a central hub, which comes with expansion slots when it is first built (At the start of the game, you have a hub with a pseudo starbase on one of the slots).
These allow you to build other stations from them, which also have expansion slots. To make it easy most stations should have 4, one on each side.
When a station is destroyed, the expansion slots has to be rebuilt before a station can be added. Then, to stop enemies destroying just this central facility to destroy all your stations, it is invincible/untargetable until all surrounding stations/expansion slots have been destroyed.

This is just a suggestion, feel free to criticise.
