question about borg shields - why do they have em in the armada and FO games? they don't have them on the show. is it possible to have the torpedos phasers etc create explosions on the hulls of borgs ships in the FO game instead of impacting with shields?

We are currently working on a larger borg redo including a complete change in borg gameplay :) so more stuff will change with our nasty assimilators in v3 then originaly planed. i think we will find a solution for the stupid shield stuff too :)

currently the colored shields help to quick see the ship status. think of having 20 borg cubes and you start an assault on a federation base. now with the colored armada shields you can quickly see which cubes are damaged and which ones are intact and not under attack so you can move damaged cubes out of the assault zone. that wouldn't be so easy if the hit indicators (i'll take this for the shields on borg vessels) would be disabled for realism matters. so we didnt have disabled the shields for borg vessels by now simply because it would be a big disadvatage for borg players in matters of micro management during assaults.

that makes perfect sense. you wouldn't be able to asses the damage of a borg ship during a battle without the coloured shields. fair enough. you could have damage appear on the ship after each hit in accordance with hit points/damge points if you get my meaning. think of bits of fire around the cube where its been hit lol. i'd guess that sort of thing would require more texture mapping or whatever it is

i reckon the debate about whether borg ships have shields is still open. :P i mean on voyager there are several references to cubes having shields. plus why would they put shields on thier drones but not on their ships? :P

They DID have shields, they had those subspace shields in the 2 part TNG episode.

I've heard before that their shields are integral with hull bulkheads, like a force field, instead of "bubble" type like everyone else has. Makes sense I think.

And very much like the Enterprise E had in Nemesis, skin-tight shields in other words.

with a new "my ship is my castle" style of the new borg we may get rid of shields for the borg, but that depends on multiplayer testing we will do :) so first the redo, then the testing, then i can say more ^_^

hes talking about the sake of micro-management. when you have a full load of fleets, your not gonna go & click on the individual ships to see which one is damaged, you'll click on the icon of that ship in the selected fleet, you won't know which icon to click on without the shield colour bar. :)

could you not switch the hull and have it on one and the shields on max and when the go down you will see the health bar go down and only problem is can you switch the symbols for shields to an armous sign and the armous sign to transparrent?

Would a different shield color of the borg fix the problem? diff color means another new developed technology ( kind of damper field) that could be used in the upcoming Quest storyline.

not really, the same thing represented by a different colour. can't see how that would help :ermm:

In my opinion, TNG was the first series introduced to the Borg and there where a lot of unknowns to be filled out. Voyager expanded the Borg in a technical sense, so I think it is a good idea to have a technological focal point to Voyager rather than TNG. In Voyager, they did have shields, except it was more like the DS9 shields, with explosions, and not the normal force-field bubble effect we used to see.
