Borg Shielding Modules

I just got this idea from the research done with the discussion thread on Borg Energy Sources.  Two separate modules.

#1 - Shield Module - The classic Borg shielding.  While activated, it reduces all phaser/disruptor damage by 80%, and torpedo damage by 30%.  While active, special energy does not regenerate. Drains special energy constantly.  If possible, the more ships firing on the same vessel, the faster the special energy drains.  If possible, instead of draining special weapon energy, instead it could cause all damage to be taken to special weapon energy first (meaning that a Borg vessel under heavy attack would have to choose between it's special weapons like slicers and nanites, or raising it's shields for a short time.  It would also mean that the Prime Sphere and Qaw'duj would be the bane of the Borg.)

#2 - Assimilated Shielding - Requires Collective Connections Upgrade 5 - Reduces special weapons energy, and special weapons energy regeneration by 75%.  Grants vessel shields like everyone else uses.  Can only be installed on a command cube, cube, pyramid, or diamond.

Neither should be cheap, most especially the second one, which should be grossly expensive in addition to the high requirements.

People aren't fond of giving Borg shields because it would require rebalancing them.

I like the first idea, provided it's not an actual "shield" as the game knows it, but rather just an ability.

Agreed with Tyler on the second one though.

The devs also favor the TNG style of "Borg Shielding".

I'm not fond of either idea to be honest - they just seem odd not to mention incredibly powerful with those numbers. If damage was to be decreased due to some ability, I'd prefer it to be through the Borg "experience system" or through the modules being equipped (like it is now). Oh, and I hate the way Voyager made the Borg like every other faction with centralized this, centralized that, and freaking visible shields!

The first one is the TNG style.  'Mr. Worf, fire Phasers!'  'No effect.'.

However, set up like that, it's not true invincibility.  Sure, that cube may have 2k+ Special Energy that you're having to pound through in order to get to it's hull, but while you do that, you're stripping away all that energy that could be used for those nasty specials.  (Also allows you to shoot a Holding Beam off you, if the Cube is running shields with the holding beam.)

With both being Modules, and the second one being highly limited and grossly expensive (I'm thinking, in the interests of prohibitive pricing, the Deflector Module adding 2k Dilithium and Tritanium with a 200 Supply cost.  It is ineffecient to build as well as crippling all the nice subsystems slicers with that 75% energy removal.)
