hey folks,
i know i´m a noob at your mod, but i´m really excited, but there´s sumthing i can´t understand.

maybe i´m on some drugs or got some problems with my eyes, but, why got borg ships a shield?

i spent a lot of time now with this idea, and i dont understand why.. maybe someone here can explain this one, cause i never saw a shielded borg cube or sphere.

and btw, i dont think that the size of most of these borg ships are in a right scale. u know. a borg cube is really much bigger.

p´z. kl0k out.

Welcome to the forums. We value everyones opinion wether your new or a veteran member. I think the reason the borg cube along with all the Borg vessels do is because they actually do have a subspace shield in the shows. It dosent show a color like the other races shields but is alot more powerful. A reason why they don't have subspace shielding is because then the Borg would become unbalanced.

hm. interesting idea, but i think that´s the main entertaining point of borg, with one word: overpowered(?). fewer ships in the alpha quadrant, but heavily armed, and so much power to take out whole fleets.

u know,
du u remember the episode, where the borg wanted to assimilate the earth.. u saw how many ships appear on screen when picard saw the massacre, and that was the result of only one cube. thats why i dont like the voyager. janeway with her tiny intrepid could never beat so many cubes, and she escaped without a scratch, thats nutz.

I think it might be cool to make Borg ships cost a bunch but be extremely powerful like they should be. Only a thought, yeah Wolf 359 was crazy, 41 ships destroyed, I think one of them was salvaged.

yea about 40 ships, and as u remember, there were, akira vessels, nebula, galaxy, excelsior... etc...
so there must be a lack of power. ;)

I also remember Cheyenne, Freedom, New Orleans classes. All put together, these ships should have been able to take down a Scimitar on steroids :D

yep, i dont know what happened there, but they must act dumb

u know, my idea is that they really need re-balancing:

that u need more ressources to get ships, get more crew on ships, fewer but bigger ships, more special energy for their holding- and techassimilatorbeam.. maybe for shield adaption too.

cause assimilation and adaption is the main directive of the borg.

some one should act in panic when he´s watchin a cube movin around on course for his base n ships... otherwise, it would make no sense, if u here the words "resistance is futile" :D

damn, i cant wait for the next beta B)

I totally agree.

I posted my idea how to solve the problem in another thread ( http://forum.fleetops.net/index.php?showtopic=575&st=23 ). It was about starting with a basic small ship and "evolving" that one step by step to a super cube. Thus you eliminate the problem of Borg starting to slow while making sure a player can only have 1 or 2 of the supercubes as seen in TNG or some more of the medium sized cubes from Voyager/FC (they are said to be the same size, about 3km long/wide/high).

However, Optec said that they are working on that. The Borg will be completely rebalanced in a future beta. And they want to make them more "borgish".

I hope and believe it will be great. Looking forward to the next betas! :D

umm.. u mean in a way like the fusion cubes? or issat wrong a direction?

hmm... maybe a techtree for advanced bigger cubes.. but, that u need to research a LOT of things before.. like powerups for engines shields an chassies... and some technicals points like assimilationstation or whatever :D

*gettin nervous* I WANT THA NEXT BETA

The complete description is in the other thread.

A similar theory is stated at http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org, too.
They made the assumption that cubes could perhaps "grow" during their journey, because they assimilate more and more.

So, the idea is to have basic cube, the scout cube.

Then you research the next cube phase just like you do it for the Rhienn class in the actual beta. But is costs more and more ressources for every phase, making the super cube from TNG very expensive (with a long development time).

So you build many scout cubes and only about 50% make it to the Voyager size.
And only very few make it to the final stage, as you need to save many ressources for that.

The research at science station could be added. For example you would have to ressearch "resource assimilation" before a scout cube can grow at all.

Or you have to research improved "power nodes" before you can build a really huge cube, as the power system would have to be stonger.

It would simply mean that you build lots of scout cubes and it only depends on resources, how fast you cubes grow.

But you can't build the super cubes from scratch, you need to develop them.
Perhaps later in the match, a bigger shipyard could build phase 2 or 3 cubes, but not the big ones.

hm.. nice idea lt cdr white... my idea was close to it, but for the really huge cube, i thought of a fusion of the "last" cubes.. know what i mean?
