Borg repair idea

yeah i know borg have advanced regeneration systems and so on but you know sometimes this isnt enough. sometimes you want to be really fast back in the fight to assimilate your enemy :borg:
so this is my idea for borg repair :

give the sphere a new module named repair module ( or whatever ^^ ) max limit of two. this module would increase sys value for a little amount but decreases the offensive ( and maybe also remove the weapon ). the module would work similar to the newtons repair beam.
so you might ask why the sphere and not a smaller borg vessel
because of balace reasons. first a repair sphere isnt a tank anymore like the sphere is used currently so you would sacrifice 50 collective connections and a tactical role only to repair your ships faster. secondly because of way i thought the repair module works. it will repair a certain percent off hull per second with only a very little energy cost but you will sacrifice the same amount of your hull for every percent of hull repaired ( maybe a little less with two modules installed ). so you have to think carfully when and where to use this cause it will definetly make your sphere damn vulnerable and an easy prey for cloaked snipers

and as little eye candy ... maybe you can make it work like a a mix of construction bees and fighters ... some small repair drones start from the sphere and circle the target and use some small repair beams or something like this :)

so what do you think of my idea ?

I have my doubts about this. When playing borg against federation, i think most players will try and grab a newton simply because it is such an incredible force multiplier for the borg.

Giving the borg a specialized repair unit would make certain borg vessels nearly invincible.

newtons dont repair borg anymore. they changed it for that very reason.

i dont want a borg repair either, i think with the additions to scubes that the borg have plenty of tanks when needed.

I haven't played as Borg yet since the new version, but that sounds great. newton is still useful for the borg, but for repair of assimilated vessels.

i think you dont understand what i mean ( no offense ;) )
i dont want this cause i feel like the borg need more tanks ... borg have the best tank is the game.
i only wanted this cause sometimes i really missed something like a repair yard to get back into a fight very fast
if you want to use it in combat well thats your problem ... as i suggested with every percent of hull repaired the sphere will loose the same percentage of hull ... so repair a other borg ship during combat and you will loose your sphere
and as i also said ... if you really decided to build this repair sphere early you will sacrifice 50 cc and a sphere chassis and your main tank only to repair ships ... so i think this are huge costs only to be a little more faster back in combat

but then you get to repair other ships, which would be too powerful imo.

borg ships that arent tanks are usually quite strong at dishing out the pain.

look at the intercept scube, that thing puts out some mean pain, but obviously cant repair. borg hulls are naturally stronger and it takes a lot to kill 1 borg ship. if they could get repaired they would be hard to stop. thats why newtons were changed to not repair borg anymore.

if u want something that regens, put a regen module on :)

thought that got removed? guide still says it "repairs all non vessels and stations" [sic] i just figured the word "borg" was left out.

They nerfed it a while back to about a quarter of what the repair used to be on Borg vessels, and it seems pretty balanced.  Not that anyone makes repair vessels, mind you.

Hm, could you link me to the place where the guide says that? :) I thought I had squashed all those references a few patches ago when it was changed

I dont like it, i think the smaller vessels need a better repair option like the probe and the intercept scube because after once use they are perma crippled and the other races can just repair. But a repair sphere... wut...

Federation - The Hitchhiker's Guide to Fleet Operations

currently it says repairs all non vessels and stations, which means it repairs nothing at all in the game :P

i thought they totally removed newton on borg, but if its just reduced effectiveness then thats ok too i guess. i rarely use newtons as you cant use them in battle, and once battle is over you can just repair them at a yard, feds rarely seem to run out of yards lol.

if anyone should have something that restores hull/shields it should be roms. fits their lack of yards and desire to hang out in the field longer with higher system values.

Removed the "non"

Yup, the Newton has reduced repair effectiveness against all alien units :)

guess thats understandable. id still make it so its even worse against borg though. as their tech is vastly different. feds and klinks for example are more similar than feds and borg.
