Borg Module Idea

The one thing that the Borg are really missing from their canon status is their shields.  I've heard the praises of the no-shields Borg, and have come up with an idea of how to make best of both worlds.

Shield Module - This module adds a special ability to the Borg vessel to engage the Adaptive Shielding.  For a short span of time, perhaps 30-46 seconds, the famous Borg shields come online, rendering the vessel impervious to attack.  (at the end of the time period, it can be assumed that the rotating frequencies moved beyond the current adaptation range)

The ability wouldn't be cheap to activate, taking perhaps 25% of the ships Special Weapon power to engage it, and the module itself would likely be expensive.  The function for the ability already exists in core A2, in the form of the 'Modulate Shields' ability of the Borg Diamond.  It would just have to be changed from targetting another vessel to affecting only the vessel using it.


Notably, the protected ship is still vulnerable to the knockback and engine-disable of Coreblast, Gravity Mines, Cehlaer's paralyzing beam, and other non-damage effects, so it's certainly not god-mode, and allows that last part of the image of the Borg to exist, and to exist in a way that matches the show.  (The Borg just took the hits until a certain point, and then raised the shields for a while, letting their opponent wail on them ineffectually.)

i think its more that borg don't have sheilds 

i dont remember seeing them... they have something more along the lines of polarised hull plate but on a borg level... basically they don't have what have what other ships have which is a big fat circular sheild around the out outside... cuz that would look weird on the cube...

the current system works fine, the borg ships can take on hell of a beating... for instance a cube has a health of over 2500, whilst a soveriegn with combined sheild and hull comes to like 1500...

in terms of your idea, they could to an extent adpat the carbonate reflector nad give it a square sod for cubes, diamon for diamond and so on, and i dunno if they can the text to only show where it is hit...

but i have a feeling it would over power the borg, an already very powerful race...

Borg do have shields, the just don't focus on them as much as other races.

They normally only use them to protect sensitive areas rather than the whole ships, though. I think the Tactical Cube has Regenerative shielding. It also has 'Multi-regenerative Security Fields' protecting the Central Plexus. Memory Alpha classes both the Tactical Cubes shield types as seperate, not the same thing with a different name.

A single-phase deflector. Say the ship is being attacked by phasers, when the ability is activated, the phasers no longer damage it, but other weapon types do, and weapons from other races (beam or whatever) still work, so it will only block a small amount of damage, but can still be effective is used correctly.

Sounds much more reasonable. You could call it "Modulate Shields", too!

Now we just need to make them square...

Sounds like an oddly specific combination Corbomite Reflector and the stock Diamond's Shield Remodulation special.

Dammit, I meant "adapt sheilds"! No idea why I wrote "modulate", that definiately sounded more starfleet than borg collective
