I would think if you were to send boarding parties, all the shooting would be blowing computer panels and bulkheads across the ship. Is it possible to make it where boarding causes mild damage?

They wont cause hull damage, because it is suited for flesh, not for hull damage. You CAN do it, but no one would.

I doubt people are likely to start shooting the windows... that's exactly the kind of thing boarding parties would try to avoid. They avoided shooting anything sensitive in the shows.

plus, when you are boarding an enemy ship you wanna capture it, not blow it up.

Maybe the crew would rather die than have the ship be taken over so the last 5 or so crew just press the 5 second self destruct button. Or maybe blow up something the boarding party is standing next to, causing some system failure.

well self destructs usually cant be triggered by anyone but the highest ranking officers. it wouldnt make sense if any mutinous ensign could blow the ship up.

so if the boarding parties beamed over to and rushed the bridge, they could kill anyone capable of setting an auto destruct.

Well, the bridge and engineering... taking that would be just as vital. Those are the only 2 places I can think of where shooting could cause serious damage like that.

Pretty easy to avoid hitting something as big as the Warp core, though.
