I was reading the DITL entry for the Romulan fleet and it mentioned attempts to confuse others about their fleets; some ships have several names, some having no name, ect. All identified as speculation, but quite believable.

Could the Romulan shipname list be altered to have some blank slots in future versions to simulate that sort of effort? All it would take is adding about 20 or so "" in the list.

Don't you think that'd make the Admiral's Log (not to mention the in-game aesthetics) even more confusing, especially if you were the Romulan in charge?

Many people don't really care about the Admiral's Log, except the first few pages. Controlling the ship shouldn't be much trouble since it's not likely to show up often, much less often than the names do.

No name is technocally still a name. Owners can spot which is which by the lack of a name.

hm, i don't think that there would be real ships without a romulan name around. the missing fields are probably just a lack information. The romulans need to address their ships for logistics somehow, so they would probably at least have a number. But for an arrogant race like the Romulans i would expext them to name their tools of war :)

I can see it now...

"I serve on the            "
"Oh really? Well I serve on the                              !"  :whistling:

I'm not seeing the problem with that scenario.

Apparently not as arrogant as the Federation or Klingons, not enough to identify they're Romulan ships.

It didn't say lack of info, it was specific about lack of a name, maybe similar to the stock A2 Research station all being "Classified":
Many of these measures continued throughout the alliance - Starfleet knows of instances where some vessels have several names while others have none, in order to create confusion about the number in service.

Ok, how about a few Classified's at the end of the list?

Why would the name be classified to the very Tal'Shiar/Galea commander who is taking control of the fleet though?

Because they don't care about the ship enough to learn its name? Or because the player is only acting in their name without actually being the officer in question, similar to the ships and stations they control.

I can understand other races/factions/whatever not knowing the name of the ship, but the overall commander should be able to know the name.  The player is the overall commander, so they should be able to see it.

The game doesn't allow that. If it did, that would be fine.

Besides, a lackey who works under a Tal Shiar agent wouldn't have access to their knowledge since they're just a pawn of the TS (if higher ranked than the other pawns). Especially on special ships like the Tavara or avatar specific warbirds.

I think the player is a bit more than just a lackey.  I mean, they pick which admiral to go with, and they are in complete command of all Romulan forces present in the battle (excluding games with multiple Romulan players, obviously, but the point still stands).

While I see the avatar selection as nothing more than a game-thing, rather than anything to do with their rank in the Empire. No different to picking a race.

Keep the Romulan Ship names in because it makes more sense than to remove them.

Even covert organizations/races need to identify specific vessels.

Think of this message arriving at the Romulan Senate: "Praetor, a Warbird has been destroyed. It is not known which of the 6000+ Warbirds in service".

That's why I changed to adding Classified instead of empty spaces.

I like the idea of "classified", but i would like to have a cleaner way, only showing stuff as classified for opponents and not the Romulan commander him/herself
