I´m guessing that the priority which ships your fleet will attack is set from weak < strong. I´m finding this quite curious because the strong ships usually deal more damage to your ships/fleet. Any chances that this will be edited or maybe dealt with the priorities/autonmies?

1 strong + 5 weak is more dangerous the 1 strong alone. Kill off the weaker ships and you will reduce their numbers, meaning less damage piles up over time.

I know ... BUT when you got 1 weak and 1 strong ship attacking your fleet, they ALWAYS will attack the weak one :/

Damage from a single weak ship will still build up as you attack the strong one, killing it first still removes some of the damage-per-second. Your ship will come out a bit better, because they cause less damage.

Depends on the units, if the stringer unit has higher DPS than the weaker units combined for example it is a more important target, plus there are specials to consider. If I'm facing an akira and a defiant, both veteran, I'll target the Defiant first not only cause of the DPS it gives out, but also because of its special (and with one of the bugs in the A2 engine, if a system disabler weapon is used on a damaged system, it shuts it down until it is repaired).

Well part of the problem is that the A2 AI is incapable of distributing its forces, a formation hits the SAME target most of the time, then the next, then the next.

Problem? How is the game attacking the ship with the lowest Defensive Value first a 'problem'?

well ... if there are just two "weak" ships and a armada of I-kill-your-fleet-cruiser ... they still are going to attack the weak ones
but anyway ... I know that Armada 2 have and had its disadvantages. If it couldn´t be fixed or balanced ... np ... just had to mention it because its really soul-destroying

Yeah, they attack the weakest ship, but in doing so they also remove a portion of the enemy firepower faster, which generally is a good thing. If they have an armada of "I-kill-your-fleet cruisers", you can always tell your ships to target them if you want, but you'll probably still die either way.
Also, what's the point of that video? Is it to demonstrate what a giant fed fleet can do against the terrible AI even when attacking the weakest ships first?

it just demonstrates that my AI will attack the weak ones
and you are wrong ... if the case is given in which this "monster AI armada" ... battle cruisers all over your way ... is comin to you and you have the possibility to choose between week or strong ones, it could be always possible that you´ll get out there alive ... quite beaten but alive
... dont want to have for 30+/- ships 6 or more fleet-shortcuts to arrange myself with this :/

Of course the problem with getting out alive is, in such cases, I've noticed that quite often your ships randomly cease the movement you orderd, and resume fighting, quite annoying when you try to micro them out of the fray.
What'd be cool is if there was a way to setup the mod so ships wouldnt have more than a few ships in a large fleet target single ships in larger opposing forces at once, it'd be intersting and likley lead to more decisive battles rather than the normal one ship at a time on each side gets shot battle.

But it's completely possible to tell the ships who to attack, if you want them to attack a certain ship. The ship AI has to prioritize something - they chose to prioritize lowest defense. But you can manually give them different orders.
I find that one of the easiest ways to make sure my ships leave the battle is to tell them to repair. Having them go towards your base generally isn't a bad thing.
