Assimilated Ships

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

Here are a few ideas for assimilated ships.  Not sure if they will be implemented as they would greatly change game balance, but here they are anyways.

  • When assimilated, a ship will automatically gain a 50% boost in all stats.
  • The assimilated ship will be refitted with Borg weapons automatically and will loose it's non-Borg passives.
  • When recaptured, it keeps it's improved stats, and is able to rank up even further.
  • If re assimilated after ranking a few times, the vessel will keep it's new rank.

50%? The borg may improve vessels, but a 5-10% would be already a serious disruption of balance.

If the borg assimilate a Defiant, is all ablative armor then stripped directly off the hull? Disabling passives should be viewed on individual basis.

Veteran/hero gets assimilated. Player takes back vessel and gets to rank it a couple more times?

The Borg would put their own armor on the defiant, hence the stat increase.

Taking Ent as canon
Borg would assimilate a ship and use it at a base to slowly rebuild it into an own disign ship.
Not refitting it to make it better. Thats just the first stepp to use borgweapons and defence systems on the ship.
After that it is rebuild.

Not instantly and even assuming that borg armor is better than federation ablative armor.

Sorry, but the proposed ideas aren't any good IMO.

Borg would probably give an assimilated ship their regenerative armor, if they believed it was worth keeping and not scrapping for resources.

I doubt Borg hulls are much better than a Federation one, just the Structural Integrity field that's stronger.

50% boost  . In fact I don't think the Borg should get any bonus on a boarded ship right away, since the constructors of a ship should still know best how to use it ;). Different weapons and regeneration abilities is something I could imagine though.
Balance wise, assimilation is already a tough issue, since it takes strength of someone and gives it to his enemy, it's worse than losing a ship. If you give those ships even stronger values the holding beam has to stay as crappy as it is now.
I'd suggest a refit phase for assimilated ships during which some systems are replaced(would cost supplies). During that refit phase the ship will be easily destroyable, afterwards it may have an improved system value and other stuff. Before the assimilated ships would however get a decrease in stats, since the Borg are trying already to transform the ship.

We already had some topics about that. My idea stands like it stood:
Make a ship able to be refitted with borg technology. You lose the quantums/photons and get your graviton torp and you lose your phaser and get your high energy beam. This is just a visual, but the refit will bring your ship into synergy with the hive, so you gain (if the ship is borg) a regen-increase for hull and shields and your subsystems are more durable. Other stats should remain the same, as we know, that the borg mostly build in redundant systems.

Second idea: Refit the assim ship with a borg-module corresponing to its class, giving those ships a slight stat-increase by one or two per module and adding a passive/active ability.

I think the devs have pretty much a large table of ideas for borg-redo, borg mixed tech, assimilated ships and so on (like the borg-space addition I'm eager to see)

Perhaps its like a normal ship until this phase, then during the refit phase the borg textures are added on to show its being refitted?

My .02 cnts on this is  to give the Borg  a facility like the Tech. assimulator of  old. Indstead of giving the Borg  access to captured tech ,the ship (Non Borg chassis) is referbed with Borg systems to be in more line  with the collective standards . By useing a "Tech Rebooting or reformatting"Station, for balance the ships  would have to go back to the station to  be reformatted to borg  standards. Assimulated vessels  could either lose or gain (1-2) Offensive  (1-2)Defensive  system  points because of the reformat.

Maybe instead of boosting the weapon's yield and the hull's strength, you could increase the weapon's firing rate and the hull's regeneration rate, maybe even increase the shield's regenerative ability.

And even if this idea isn't worth pursuing (I believe it is), we could at least make it so that upon a ship's assimilation, it would be altered visually, with borg nodes visibly present on its hull, like the original armada 2 game.

Borg nodes are a planned addition, some ships (mainly most Federation ones) already have them.

I miss the borg nodes on assimilated vessels. It made them look all diseased and afflicted, which, I think, was the point.

From what I've heard, the borg nodes will be visible on all assimilated ships eventually. But it will take some time to get that finished.

I think there should be the nodes initially, but you have the option to bring them back to a station where they go through a complete transformation, getting full borg textures and weapons, and some fitting new borg type abilities. (i think i touched on this subject before in my mod ideas thread. lol)
