Here's a random idea: What if the one of the races had a support ship that allows all of the ships within a fleet (certain radius) to travel as fast as the fastest ship? (would be a boost to those artillery ships, too)

Ships would actually have to be moving to take advantage of it (so no parking a speedy near the mining).

Pro: It would encourage more mixed fleets.

(edited to remove baseless claim - since I'm calling others on it, I might as well be honest too)

Almost all romulan ships are designed for hit and run attacks.  Good range, pulse weapons, relatively fast.  The D'deridex's role is quite different.  It's designed for large (end game) fleet engagements, where everyone is pretty much making battleships.

The Norexan and the D'deridex cost about the same, and many people prefer the Norexan because it is faster and has a great first strike special.  But most of it's power comes from pulse weapons, which do only 80% to cruisers and 60% damage to battle ships (although its beam weapon does equal damage to all ships).  So it's not as effective against battleships.  That's where the D'deridex comes in.  Not only does it do full damage to battleships, but has a higher defense and a shield recharge passive to keep it in the fight.

Not only does the Big D do well as a frontline/siege vessel, but its support ability fits nicely for those large fleet engagements.  25% damage reduction for 15 seconds.  That's a whole minute with only 4 of them!  This is a big help to a race that is used to doing all its damage upfront and has very little endurance.

So yes, it's slow.  But that's ok, because it's the only meatshield the romulans have besides the Tavara.  You build them when you and your team mates are going to assault the other side's fleet.  You can't exactly hit and run and leave your allies to lose all their ships!  (Well, you can, and that would be very Romulan of you :shifty:, but you might not have team mates next game ).  And the other time you build them is if you need need a ships that can attack stations and turrets that can't move out of the way.

D'deridex is awesome the way it is.

It's awesome stability is most useful in combination with the shield recharge of the supporting generix class. I hope that special will stay with the next release. Otherwise the d'deridex will not fit the romulan battle-strategies any more, as romulans should try to never loose a single ship.
